The Cobalt Mining Museum The Cobalt Mining Museum strives to preserve the history of Cobalt. We are open Wednesday - Sunday 10 AM to 4 PM

Mine tours are available till August 30th.

The mining museum owns a number of artifacts and photographs dating back to the early days of the silver rush. Over 6000 photographs have been digitized for their collection. The museum displays several original paintings by Richard Ferrier depicting local mine head frames. The

se were donated to the museum by the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame to commemorate 100 years of silver in 2003. It also houses an extensive collection of mining books, maps and articles pertaining to the mining history of the area in the Ignatius MacDonald Library. Cultural artifacts from Cobalt history are also on display and souvenirs are available at the gift shop.The Mining Museum is situated on 24 Silver Street. The Museum hours of operation change seasonally. Museum Admission:

Adults – $8.00 + tax
Seniors and Students – $6.00 + tax
Children under 6 are free
Group Rate (5 - 20 people) - $5.00 + tax per person
Group Rate (20+ people) - $4.00 + tax per person

Mine Tour (Includes Museum Admission):

Adults - $20.00 + tax
Seniors and Students - $15.00 + tax
Children under 6 are free
Group Rate (5 - 20 people) - $12.00 + tax per person

Although the underground mine tours are finished for the year, the museum is still open 5 days a week in September, and will be open throughout the winter. Please check the website and social media for updated times and hours through the fall. 🦊⛏

Good morning Cobalt,

This will be the final ROCK FACT of the summer, farewell!

A 'mud rush' refers to “The more or less sudden inflow of peat, moss, sand, gravel, silt, or any other waterlogged material into shallow mine workings. The manager has a duty to take steps to prevent such inrushes as laid in the Precautions against Inrushes Regulations, 1956. Also called mud run.”

The regulation referred to in the above quote came directly from British Parliament in “The Coal and other Mines (Precautions Against Inrushes) Act of 1956 No. 1770.” which came twenty one years before the USA Federal Mine Safety and Health Act of 1977, and thirty four years before Canada’s “Occupational Health and Safety Act R.R.O. 1990, REGULATION 854 MINES AND MINING PLANTS”.

Mining safety has developed heavily over many decades, and each part of the world moves at their own pace it seems! I find it interesting that an American dictionary from 1968 refers to an Act outside of their country and refers to it as if its their own. Share your thoughts below!
