The Fredericton Region Museum (formerly the York Sunbury Museum) is operated by the York Sunbury Historical Society. The Society was founded in 1932 and has members from all over North America. In 1959, the Museum found permanent headquarters in the Officers' Quarters (571 Queen Street) in the heart of downtown Fredericton's Historic Garrison district. The Society and Museum remain a non-profit en

terprise with a small paid staff and numerous volunteers. They work tirelessly to create informative exhibits based on the history of Fredericton and surrounding areas, organize programs and events as well as publish a local history periodical The Officers' Quarters. The Fredericton Region Museum is the home of the world famous Coleman Frog and has 12 permanent and temporary exhibits including First Nations, Acadian, Loyalist, Black Heritage, First World War, Second World War (Carleton and York Regiment). The Fredericton Region Museum is a gateway into the exciting history and diverse heritage of central New Brunswick. Because central New Brunswick is where the provincial capital is located, and it served as a meeting place for First Nations, Loyalists, Acadian, and other European settlers, the Fredericton Region Museum is an excellent place to start. With over 4,000 square feet of exhibit space and a collection of over 30,000 artefacts and archival documents, the museum is a fun and exciting way to look into our past.

Carl Jones began his career at the Chestnut Canoe Company as a snowshoe maker. Over the years, he worked on many aspects of the company's products before eventually specializing in canoe construction. When the factory ceased operations in 1979, Carl purchased a number of the original forms and established his own company, Cedarwood Canoes. For the next 20 years, Carl and his son, Steven, continued producing a variety of canoes in the Chestnut tradition, operating in both Nashwaaksis and Lower Queensbury.

Included in our new exhibition, Paddling through Time: Honouring Fredericton's Chestnut Canoe – Voyager à travers le temps : Hommage au canot Chestnut de Fredericton, are Carl Jones's original Chestnut snowshoes, as well as a selection of paddles that reflect his enduring connection to this important local craft.

Join us on June 28 at 2:00 p.m. for the official opening. Everyone is welcome!
