The weather looks better for surfing this weekend so we are canceling our clean up!

We are usually pretty hardcore, but when it comes to taking canoes and kayaks out on the ocean - safety always comes first! The weather is really unpredictable this time of year and it's hurricane season, so we're going to stay LAND HO!

Milestone Incoming

1,700 cleanups passed in 2026, incredible! This puts us at over 6 cleanups being reported every day this year. Keep up the great work.

We are closing in on the 500,000 lobster bands counted for the year, so do me a favor and let's pass it this week. It has been on the horizon for a few weeks now, so let's make that one our milestone to hit by next Friday.

1983 was the first time the Canadian lobster fishery used plastic trap tags.

And yes... we still find those tags washing ashore! Before that we used metal tags. and Artisan Kristen makes these framed pieces to showcase the lobster trap tags. Notice on the top it starts from 1983 and has every single year up to 1997. These are great educational pieces! Area 4A is what LFA34 used to be called!

Some of these tags are older than a lot of our followers... and some are definitely younger 😉

Oops. I forgot to post yesterday. I got lost digging in an 1950s-ish bottle dump.

Honestly, it was kind of nice just being out the rain, digging a hole and finding treasures. It brought back memories of my childhood, and sometimes it's nice to take a break...

But really... I was still cleaning up and I'm trying to think of some cool ways to reuse my finds!

Which piece of seaglass trash do you like better?

The ginger b**r bottle of the patterned purple? Both were found today during a side mission alongside of LOTS of other seaglass and pottery!

The ginger b**r bottle is from the early 1900s, but I have no idea what the purple piece would have been from. Do any of our followers know?

A Canadian 🇨🇦 Canadian Coast Guard buoy washed ashore across the Atlantic Ocean. A lot of folks are asking us if we are going to get it.

I'll make you a deal: Once we get all the other washed ashore Coastguard buoys cleaned up around maybe we can figure out a plan for that one? That's... if they will let us!

: IT'S ACTUALLY ILLEGAL FOR US TO RETRIEVE THEM. (Even the ones filled with styrofoam) Under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 and the Criminal Code, it is a serious offense to interfere with, willfully alter, remove, moor to, or relocate any official "aid to navigation" (which includes lighthouses, beacons, and buoys). Official buoys are federal property and critical for marine safety.

So, although it looks like a incredible adventure to Ireland... we are truly focused on the shorelines of Nova Scotia and have enough here to pick up!
