The Collingwood Museum is excited to host a ๐ฐ๐ž๐ž๐ค๐ฅ๐ฒ ๐›๐จ๐จ๐ค ๐œ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐› ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐Œ๐ฎ๐œ๐ค๐ฉ๐š๐ฅ๐จ๐จ exploring Inuit Traditional Knowledge and the recent discoveries surrounding the doomed Franklin Expedition. Grab a copy of Frozen in Time: The Fate of the Franklin Expedition by Owen Beattie and John Geiger and join us as we dive into one of Canadaโ€™s most enduring Arctic mysteries.

Copies of the book will be available at a special discount for book club participants at the Museumโ€™s exhibit exploration event on Thursday, September 3 beginning at 6:30 p.m.

110 years ago, a devastating fire changed Collingwoodโ€™s waterfront. On August 10, 1916, a massive fire destroyed the main building of the Collingwood Meat Packing Company, located on the south side of Harbour Street on the shore of Georgian Bay.

Established in 1894, the company was once an important and prosperous part of Collingwoodโ€™s industrial landscape. Thatโ€™s a Wrap on Summer Programs! ๐ŸŽ‰

We wanted to share a huge final thank you to all the participants who joined our summer programs! From week to week, we had a blast learning, creating, and exploring the history of Collingwood together. Highlights from this summer included riding the smoothie bike, building forts with the giant blue blocks, touring Tremont Art Studio, and going on an excellent art walk!

Itโ€™s been such a joy seeing the participants dive into Collingwoodโ€™s history while having fun, making friends, and showing off their creativity. We wish you all the best in the new school year and canโ€™t wait to see what next summer has in store!

Week 9 was an amazing way to wrap up our summer programs! We had fun exploring different types of vehicles and discovering the many ways we travel.

๐ŸšฆMonday, we learned about the roads we travel on, explored the meaning behind different street signs, and discovered how our roads got their names. Then we got creative by making our own traffic lights and street signs before playing a fun game of secret pathways!

๐Ÿš—Tuesday, we learned about the history of motor vehicles and how different designs help vehicles to move efficiently. We put our creativity to work by making our own paper plate cars and designing miniature driving scenes.

โš“Wednesday, we learned about ships and how density and buoyancy help keep them afloat. We also looked at models of ships built right here in Collingwood! Using what we learned in our lesson, we made paper plate portholes and a paper ship before going outside to test our creations!

โœˆThursday, our final day of summer programs, was all about aerodynamics and the history of flight! We learned about the forces that make flight possible and explored what it takes for an object to fly. We then designed our own rocket puppets and popsicle stick airplanes.

It was a wonderful summer filled with learning, creativity, and lots of fun! Thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the summer, we hope you had as much fun as we did and look forward to seeing you again! ๐ŸŽ‰

This yearโ€™s event marks the 40th anniversary of the Collingwood Shipyardsโ€™ closure and staff have been planning a special line-up of new and familiar events to mark the occasion, happening on September 11 and 12.

๐ŸŽฌJoin the Collingwood Museum for two special screenings of ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‹๐š๐ฌ๐ญ ๐‹๐š๐ฎ๐ง๐œ๐ก: ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‘๐ข๐ฌ๐ž ๐š๐ง๐ ๐…๐š๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐จ๐Ÿ ๐‚๐Ž๐‹๐‹๐’๐‡๐ˆ๐, a five-part docuseries directed and produced by Thomas Stubbington that explores the history, people, and lasting legacy of the Collingwood Shipyards.

Where did the summer go? Itโ€™s hard to believe we are already saying goodbye to our fantastic seasonal staff!

From creating memorable summer programs and experiences for youth, to researching and developing engaging in-person and virtual exhibits, our seasonal staff have played an important role in making this summer at the Museum such a success. Their energy, creativity, and dedication have made this summer memorable for museum visitors, and we are so thankful for everything they have contributed!

A huge shoutout to everyone who joined us for the Museumโ€™s ๐‘๐ž๐ญ๐ซ๐จ ๐•๐ข๐๐ž๐จ ๐†๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฌ ๐๐ข๐ ๐ก๐ญ last week! From Atari and ColecoVision to Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64 and Playstation4, we travelled through gaming history.

We battled it out with Ms. Pac-Man, Super Mario, Legend of Zelda, and plenty of other classic favourites. There was lots of friendly competition, nostalgia, laughter, and new memories made along the way!

Thank you for bringing your enthusiasm, your competitive spirit, and your love of retro gaming. We had a blast seeing the Museum filled with gamers of all ages!
