We are thrilled to introduce our summer staff and excited to welcome back Amy for another season at the Museum!

My name is Amy, and I am excited to be returning for my second summer as a Student Programmer. I grew up in Wasaga Beach and moved to Collingwood during high school. This spring, I completed Teachers College, and I am eager to bring my passion for learning and education into this summer's programs!

This view looking north on Hurontario Street captures Collingwoodโ€™s beautiful downtown in May 1941, 85 years ago. Brick storefronts and parked cars line both sides of the bustling main street and at the far end of the road is a ship in the harbour, a sight that was once common in Collingwood.

Visible in the distance is the Canatco, originally built at the Collingwood Shipyards in 1919 as Hull 64, Canadian Gunner. Its name was changed in the 1920s after the vessel was sold to the Canada Atlantic Transit Company. The ship remained in service until October 1942, when it was fatally damaged by an explosion off the coast of Labrador.

Cars line both sides of the busy downtown street, while a ship is visible in the harbour in the distance. At the centre of the scene, a car pulls into traffic as a woman crosses toward the east side of the street.
