Fish skin leather is a time consuming but worthwhile art form and method of preservation which allows me and my kin to connect with fish beyond the dishes, bellies and rivers we pride ourselves in as Metis people.

Our cultural dishes, our kinship and our environs are not all always the same, but many Metis have traditions which connect us to fish and fishing as staple aspects of our identity. From the stunning whitefish scale art of the western rivers and lakes to the fish leather working of the eastern muskegs and cricks, Metis artists always find a way to make better use of left over resources.

Thank you to Michael Di Cintio for the amazing fish skins and for hosting the recent Fishing Competition on Baptiste Lake!

Next year we hope to have a boat on the water ourselves to join in the fun directly.

We are thrilled to announce that the incredibly talented artist Marc Sorozan, also known as Mezmorphix.Inc, is now available in our gallery!

Sorozan’s work can be found on billboards and enveloping downtown Toronto buildings, thrilling the imagination with his vibrant colors, intricate details, and surreal imagery. This artist know how to draw the eye through a mesmerizing experience.
