The House of European History is a history museum in Brussels, Belgium, focusing on the recent history of the continent of Europe and the European integration process. The museum offers a unique perspective on the history of the continent. It takes a transnational approach to the main events and phenomena that have united and divided Europeans through time. It explores the diverse legacies and int

erpretations of its history. While learning about Europe’s past, visitors are encouraged to think critically about its present in order to engage in its future. The museum is open seven days a week and entrance is free. An interactive tablet provides the museum content in 24 languages. La Candidate Sans-Papiers d’Europe

Europe's first undocumented candidate ran in the 2024 Brussels municipal elections as a fictional political figure, to support the demand for regularisation of hundreds of thousands of migrant citizens.

Through a prefigurative artistic strategy — one that enacts and embodies desired futures rather than simply demanding them — the Candidate Sans-Papiers d’Europe shifts the narrative away from victimisation, grounding it instead in the dignified, first-person perspectives of those most concerned.

|| AFTER BORDERS || A two-day event on coloniality, patriarchy and capital, connected to the exhibition Postcolonial?

Maria Galindo is a Bolivian feminist activist, writer, performer and co-founder of the anarcho-feminist collective Mujeres Creando.

Her work combines political activism, public intervention, radio, performance and writing to challenge patriarchy, coloniality, racism, neoliberalism and institutional forms of power.

Through a radical and deeply situated feminist practice rooted in Latin American social struggles, Galindo has become one of the most influential voices in contemporary decolonial and anti-patriarchal thought.

This two-day event is co-curated by Maria Galindo and La Candidate Sans-Papiers.

Next weekend, the House of European History hosts After Borders, a two-day initiative in Brussels that brings together women from formerly colonised countries for an international gathering aimed at collectively exploring the transformative power of alliances through situated perspectives on colonial legacies in Europe and current migration policies.

Engaged citizens, community members and associations are invited to participate in workshops, discussions and public talks.

The event, co-curated by Maria Galindo and La Candidate Sans-Papiers, is free, open to all and culminates in an open public assembly with performative interventions.

The Hope Manifesto is a collective, teacher-led statement from the 'History & Hope' conference, jointly organised by EuroClio - European Association of History Educators and House of European History.

It responds to a shared need from educators across Europe and the UK: to teach history in ways that address complexity while also opening space for hope, meaning and agency.

In a context of disinformation, contested histories, war and polarisation, this is not simple — but it is necessary.

Material extraction was an essential feature of colonialism, closely tied to the growth of modern capitalism.

Empires harvested huge volumes of natural resources from their colonies to drive industrialisation.

They transformed occupied territories into plantations for cash crops like sugar, tea and coffee, and palm oil.

In this work ''The Botanist Kid (Boy)'', Yinka Shonibare CBE explores links between extractive colonialism and modern environmental crises.
