Wendy Arnett says that ever since she was a child, she's always had busy hands and loved creating.
Inspired by a UK Glass artist she saw in a book, Wendy became fascinated by kiln-formed glass art, a creative passion she's enjoyed for over 12 years now.
Working in her gorgeous garden studio, she has the space to explore the technical aspects and apply them to her imaginings. When the manipulation of this unforgiving element is successful, her joy is immense, and the emergence from the kiln of her bright and beautiful creations is like opening presents on Christmas morning.
Wendy is delighted and honoured, to share those successes with appreciative viewers and collectors.

It's been a wonderful day in Yungaburra, commemorating 100 years since the Gillies Range opened, allowing road traffic up from the coast, through Yungaburra.
In those days, the main industry in the town was timber. There was a sawmill operating in Yungaburra until the 1980s, milling red cedar, Qld maple, kauri, Qld walnut, pendants, ash and silky oak for building, furniture and veneers. The railway siding, where timber was loaded on trains to go down to Cairns, was directly across the road from our current shop.
World Heritage Listing of the remaining rainforests in the late 1980s meant that the timber mills closed and Yungaburra began growing its tourism industry based on the beautiful natural environment.
Our woodworkers still love using the beautiful North Qld timbers, and take pride in using sustainably sourced or recycled timbers. Good handcrafted timber work is very precious these days.

With the upcoming The Gillies Centenary Celebration , we're harking back to the fun things we did before toys needed batteries. Anthony makes these wooden spinning tops. They keep me entertained when the shop is quiet 😄
