💪🏼Then crack open a 44 million year old geode - Sparkles guaranteed! He has spent a lifetime travelling to every corner of the world to collect crystallised mineral specimens, gemstones, fossils and rocks. He searches only for the best - the most perfect, the most extraordinary, the most valuable,

the rarest and the biggest. To house his growing collection of more than 600 individual pieces, René has built 300 m2 of tunnels and grottos for you to explore. The dedication and imagination of one man to build a fantasy cave to house his massive collection is only surpassed by the quality and size of the crystals and fossils. This virtual cave gives the feeling of finding these natural formations yourself. Carefully positioned and delicately lit, you are free to discover in your own time and encouraged to touch and photograph the crystals. Open your mind and put all expectations aside, this is not your average museum…

Unfortunately our croc head has been damaged and will be away for repairs for a little while. 🐊

We love being a hands-on museum where people can touch and interact with the specimens, and most visitors are incredibly respectful, but every now and then things get handled a little more roughly than they should.

He’ll be back looking his best soon 💎

Unlike real caves… our caves need maintenance 💎🔨

Recently, we emptied out the rose quartz fountain so we could give the giant amethyst geode a deep clean, repaint the edges, and fix up a few other worn spots around the museum.

One of the things we love most about The Crystal Caves is that it’s hands-on. You can touch, feel, and properly experience the specimens - but that also means things occasionally get chipped, worn, or broken.

Usually, we crack our geodes up on the stage - but if getting up there isn’t easy for you, our team will happily bring the machine down to make it more accessible.

Today’s the day 🌴💎✨

We’re back at Port Douglas Carnivale this morning for The Crystal Caves Treasure Hunt at Four Mile Beach as part of the Tin Shed Family Beach Day 🎡

From 10am–1pm we’ll be hiding hundreds of real gemstones in the sand for little treasure hunters to find 👀

There’ll also be giant kites, face painting, sand sculpting, food trucks, live music, market stalls, and plenty happening all along the beach.

Grab a bucket and come say hello ✨
