KEIRABALD 2026
4.05.26 - 17.05.26
Step into a world where colour, rhythm and storytelling come together in harmony. Welcome to Keirabald 2026, a portrait competition showcasing the remarkable talent of students from Balgownie, Coniston, Fairy Meadow, Mt Ousley, Pleasant Heights and Wollongong Public Schools, alongside the emerging artists of Keira High School. Inspired by the esteemed Archibald Prize, Keirabald invites audiences to experience portraiture through the imaginative lens of music and story.
This year’s theme, Symphony of Portraits, is inspired by the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s 2026 Book Week theme, Symphony of Stories. Like instruments in an orchestra, each portrait contributes its own voice, rhythm and melody to a larger creative composition. Through colour, line, pattern and expression, students have explored how portraits can convey harmony, movement, individuality and connection.
Since its inception in 2012, Keirabald has celebrated storytelling through portraiture, with each annual theme inspiring young artists to respond in inventive and meaningful ways. This year’s exhibition transforms the gallery into a visual symphony, where every face tells a story and every artwork adds a new note to the world’s song.
Opening Night: Thursday May 7, 5:30-7:15
