👀🐍 WHERE’S WALLY?

Can you spot this regular visitor to the Cretaceous Garden? 🌿🪨

With adults reaching more than four metres in length, the olive python is one of Australia’s largest snakes. Its chocolate-brown to olive-green colouring makes it very good at blending into its surroundings!

So, can you find the python hiding in the garden? 👀

🔧 Catching up on maintenance!

It was a pleasure to have Graham Becker from GDB Welding back at the Museum after a few years away.

Graham, who hails from Nebo in Central Queensland, first made several trips out to the Museum in 2021, completing much of the Corten steel work around the "March of Titanosaurs" exhibition and Gondwana Stars Observatory ahead of their grand opening in May that year.

Since then he has returned to fabricate copper handrails and weld intricate steel screens along the stairs and walkways at Dinosaur Canyon and the Reception Centre.

This latest visit was all about catching up on those jobs that had been waiting a little too long! Over four busy days, Graham:

🔩 Lined the "March of the Titanosaurs" exhibition powerhouse with insulated steel sheeting so it can be air-conditioned.

🚪 Installed steel gates with insulated backing beneath the Dinosaur Canyon pathway to help keep our data cabinets cool – ready for the rollout of our upcoming Shadows of Gondwana experience next year.

🔭 Completed the final welding jobs at the Gondwana Stars Observatory.

A huge thank you to Graham for his amazing work and for helping us get some long-outstanding jobs finally ticked off the list! 👏

Did you know finding a sauropod skull is as rare as finding a unicorn? 🦕✨ For decades we’ve pieced together these giants from isolated bones and teeth, but the Mitchell site has given us something extraordinary.

Excavated between 2019 and 2025 this fossilised specimen contains a rare cluster of at least three intact teeth nestled within skull material. This isn’t just a collection of bones; it’s a key that unlocks how these 95-million-year-old giants actually looked, ate and moved.

🌧️ Last week we were lucky enough to receive some much-needed rain at The Jump-Up Dark-Sky Sanctuary!

The rocks darken, the plants come alive and suddenly The Jump-Up looks completely different. 🌱 Don’t worry, it was only a little bit! All roads are open and The Jump-Up is ready to explore. 🦖🌿
