So people make 5 year plans, it’s a thing. No matter how good I was at planning though I couldn’t have planned how the last five years would turn out!
If you had told me that in five years I would:
•open a business and actually learn how to run it
•learn to teach art, run workshops, paint in front of people
•grow from representing three artists to over thirty
•run charity exhibitions and raise money for local people
•participate in two Affordable Art Fairs without feeling like an imposter
•stick to my plan of only stocking local artists
•go from a team of me to a team of 6
• put almost 300k back into the pockets of local women!
But yellowhouseart is not about the stats it’s about the people and over the last five years there’s been a few - the people who came and never left, the artists who trusted me with their art, the ones who came for a lesson or workshop and became family, the kids who remind me everyday why hanging out with them is the best thing ever, the visitors who found themselves sharing their stories when all they planned was a window shop, all the people who said yellowhouse was what they didn’t know they were looking for, the people who used it as a safe space as much as I do. These are the people who make the gallery the special place it is.
So thankyou everyone! I didn’t know five years ago that any of this would happen but I’m glad it all did. I’m looking forward to sharing the next five years!
