Excuse me, do you know who the artist is?

Meet Aster Denisenko, one half of LIMINAL.

Aster’s works move through different periods of change, from fractured figures and cooler, more austere works to pieces exploring feminine rage, relationships and the moments when sometimes the only option is to burn it all to the ground.

But underneath it all, there is hope.

What if what’s left behind deserves our attention?

In REMAINS, Laura Wright Laura Wright explores residue, traces and the physical history held within an artwork.

Through layering, staining, covering, removing and revealing, earlier actions are never entirely lost. Marks remain. Surfaces hold memory. What might otherwise be concealed, removed or overlooked is instead given significance.

REMAINS invites us to look a little closer at what survives — and consider what those traces might reveal.

How well do you actually know your local artists?

Meet Megan-Jane Johnstone Dr Megan-Jane Johnstone AO AO, a Melbourne-based abstract artist whose work is shaped by place.

Originally from New Zealand, Megan-Jane draws inspiration from the natural environment and the geological and botanical histories held within it — from the distinctive landscapes and formations of New Zealand to rural and forested regions across Australia.

Working with water-based paints, acrylic inks, gel prints and collage, she reinterprets the colours, contours and geological features of these places through abstraction and experimentation.

Local art can take us well beyond our own backyard.
