Pastel x June 12th 8-11pm moonlit journey. Tickets in bio.

Emotion music maven and splendid human .tangerinee shall be visiting us from the big rock.

Tangerine (she/her) has spent the better half of the last decade immersed in the ‘Australian’ underground, both organising and playing at raves, club nights, festivals and more. Her DJ sets reflect her expansive taste in music and sense of adventure and curiosity, blending old gems, her own productions and niche finds from the more left-field corners of techno, trance, and IDM. Tangerine naturally communicates raw feelings on the dancefloor, motivated by a desire to find beauty in contradiction and a sense of delicacy amidst the chaos.

Tangerine has released on local and international labels including Mama Snake’s Amniote Editions, Harold’s Steeplejack, Andy Garvey’s Pure Space and Pjenne and Millu’s Companion. Tangerine notably self-released her first EP First Breath in 2022, which allowed her to tour internationally and perform at venues and festivals in Berlin, London, Copenhagen, Paris and more.

Tangerine’s involvement in the underground electronic music scene and the arts is extensive, as the head of multiple event series (most notably Le Doof in Canberra and Absorb(ed) in Naarm/Melbourne) and as the co-founder of Verve Magazine, an online multimedia platform for emerging artists. Tangerine has also run multiple workshops on how to approach live sets to try and break down the pressure around this practice and make the production more accessible. As a woman in the field of production, Tangerine is well aware of the fears that come with not feeling like belonging in this world.

Incredibly warmed to be joined by the regal heart human Georgie Vozar.

Georgie’s practice is collaborative - making is a shared conversation that informs her solo work and embeds traces of collective experience into each piece. She celebrates the marks people leave - gestures, imprints, moments of play - collaboratively blending experimental music and clay to honour spontaneity and the stories held within the material. Her work sits within the space between intention and accident, where play is a process and objects become records of interaction, exploring what it means to shape a site, be shaped by it, and leave something of ourselves behind...

𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘚𝘖𝘕𝘐𝘊 𝘔𝘖𝘓𝘋 is a space where sound becomes form, where sound and clay intertwine in a live, collective experience. With (Live), each participant becomes part of a fluid artistic moment as soundscapes fill the air, guiding hands as they mold the earth. To start the evening, will present a ‘tuning into sound’ workshop and later invite attendees to join 𝘛𝘏𝘌 𝘚𝘖𝘕𝘐𝘊 𝘔𝘖𝘓𝘋: an interactive, freeform live sculpting experience. The created object will later be fired and exhibited at High Note.

Join us at on Sunday, 10th of November, from 17h to 21h. Please note that space is limited—only 50 tickets are available.

Rachel Lyn is a Berlin-based, Australian-born composer, deeply immersed in the world of electronics and modular synthesis. Known for crafting unique auditory experiences, she brings thought forms and imagination to life through intricate sound textures. At the heart of her creative process is an innate ability to tell stories. Her work explores the grey areas of sound, drawing inspiration from early electronics, nature’s glitches, imaginary entities, and wordplay. Unbound by traditional genre constraints, her sonic creations are both original and profound, possessing unique beauty and synchronisation.

Dec 1st - Thornbury - Naarm - 7-10pm

The Palette of Sound: a creative synthesis with Rachel Lyn.

Introducing heart human Lucille Bone. Drawing on her work as an Arts psychotherapist, Lucille shall be softly roving between and guiding us during our sound stimulated creative expressions.

Lucille Bone (she/her) is a Melbourne/Naarm based Arts psychotherapist, artist and dancer. Her aim as a practitioner is for clients to feel seen, empowered and supported through a person centred approach, offering a range of expressive modalities to inspire growth and change. Her experience through movement has embedded a focus towards embodied awareness and utilising dance movement as a process for healing and inner exploration.

~ Art practice ~

Her attunement to sensation and movement fosters an illuminated awareness to her subjects. This focus is unveiled throughout her medium of photography and performance guided by an eye that travels to hold what is felt within a moment. Caught boldly with the extremities of dark and light she leads you to inquire further with a permission to absorb and question your own relationship to the work.

Hello Loved,

How does the relationship between Art and Music shape our emotions?

Pastel Raum is warmed to explore these themes in an upcoming interactive experience called ‘The Palette of Sound: a creative synthesis with Rachel Lyn (Live)’

Art Therapy and Music Therapy are complimentary treatments in the management of many mental health experiences, which has seen positive outcomes in reducing suffering from mental symptoms.

Evidence is gathering in their use in a wide range of mental health difficulties from Depression to Schizophrenia to Alzheimer’s disease and Autism. They serve as not only a medium to assist clients to open up, identify and share their feelings, but also as an auxiliary treatment for diagnosing mental health experiences to obtain complementary information different from conventional tests and therapies.

Come join us as we explore this dynamic in an immersive to-and-fro experience between performer and listener.

Using Rachel Lyn’s live analog synthesised emotion music as stimulus, listeners will be invited to express how the sounds are moving them, what emotions develop. Whether through expressive journaling, drawing, sketching, sculpting or otherwise, all are welcome to bring their own creative utensils. Pastel Raum shall supply paper, drawing supplies and a limited amount of paint.

How will our emotional landscapes align and differ between us and will you take Art and Music Therapy on into your mental health journey.

Thornbury Location TBA
Friday December 1st from 7pm into the evening (approx. 10pm).
It is encouraged to bring a matt/rug and pillow.
BYO
Limited number of tickets are $38 each (link in bio)

This event shall be held on the lands, near the waterways and under the skies of the Wurundjeri People of the Kubin Nation, who are the Traditional Owners and we pay our respect to their Elders past and present for their ongoing custodianship and ways of knowing. A particular heart to those mob reading this and who attend this event.

Always was, always will be.

Come express your emotional palette.

Hello loved,

Soak yourself in the warm glow of these two songs recently exhibited as part of the Pastel Raum Exhibition: What does safe and/or cosy space look/sound/feel/smell like?

Heart to these two humans Sven Vague and Dan Nagle for sharing an aural glimpse into their safe spaces.

What does safe space sound like? EP

~ Bath Song ~

Dip in, slip out
of past and future,
begin again
an anchor to here,
the safe and tight hold
of a hot bath on a cold night,
where time is liquid
and memory rests
a flicker for quiet reflection
childlike movement,
where play and reverie intercept
and it’s just you and this
gentle stream

“Bath Song” was written and performed live on an antique Mason & Hamlin Pump Organ in one take on a cold afternoon in a Reservoir share house. Inspired by many occasions where I would lie and heal in Epsom waters while drifting off to the soft voice of Maria Somerville. My safe place. - Sven Vague

~ Delay Indigo ~

"Warm synths overlapping with tape delay eariness. Feelings of warmth and
comfort inside, during a southern winter storm." - Dan Nagle

Firstly, Pastel Raum acknowledges the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation as the Traditional Owners of the Land, Sky and Waterways that we learn and play on. We pay our respect to their Elders past, present and emerging whose knowledge and stories echo across timelines. We are grateful to have the opportunity to share space on country together for this event.

Pastel Raum has invited artists to submit works for a group exhibition on Saturday August 5th at 6pm within the old Industrial School of the Abbotsford Convent. Artists of all media have been exploring what safe and/or cosy space looks, sounds, feels or smells like to them. The notion is that safety/cosiness differs with the beautiful diversity of humans. Is there an opportunity to learn by gleaning a glimpse into one's own safe/cosy space?

The artists, if able, have been invited to contribute a percentage of their artwork sale towards the ‘Pay The Rent’ program.
