SIMON GILLIES - GLENALADALE STATION
After last nights meeting, we all had the absolute pleasure of listening to Bill Jackson speak about the life of Simon Gillies, his family and their connection to Gippsland.

Gillies was born at Inverness, Scotand in 1807. In 1842 he arrived in Sydney aboard the 'BROOM' and 3 years later took up the GLENALADALE STATION with Charles McLean. Interestingly, it was Gillies hotel at Iguana Creek where Angus McMillan died in 1861.

In 1884, after several property changes, Gillies sold up and moved to 'The Clippings' at Sale, where he died to following year. Gillies and his wife Margaret are buried in the Sale Cemetery and until recently their grave was unmarked.

Our Club honoured 3 Rotarians and 4 members of the public with a Rotary Community Awards Presentation on Sunday afternoon at Duart Homestead. Rotarians Rob Christie, John Osborn and Neil Wishart as well as Melissa Meldrum, Josh Neille - The Wombat Guy, Daniel Parker-Estoppey and Briagolong Art Gallery were given certificates of appreciation for their work.
There was a wealth of volunteer hours in that room! And an incredible amount of different organisations that benefitted from those hours. A wonderful testament to the power of community service and volunteering. THANK YOU to all the Awardees.
