Group bookings can be made for openings outside these hours, where an opening fee applies. Th

e Society's collection covers all of the former Maffra Shire (including Heyfield, Glenmaggie, Tinamba, Newry, Boisdale, Briagolong and Bundalaguah). We also operate a page for Briagolong (Briagolong History), and there are pages also for Heyfield and Boisdale. The Society is not able to carry out family history and other research through our page. Enquiries should be directed to [email protected]. A research fee usually applies for extensive work.

Keep an eye open around Maffra Wednesday for something very special.

Counting down to our big trip to Visit Maffra for the first time in the best part of 70 years, and then attend the Heyfield Vintage Machinery Rally!!
The roller is looking beautiful, as she should, and will be having a steam up at home this Saturday to make sure she is right for her holiday.
Big news is that Wednesday 13th May we will be trundling around Maffra in the roller, with a meeting booked with Cr Cindy Madeley - Coastal Ward, Wellington Shire Council followed by a road run back to the Lakeside Antique Museum in preparation for the Heyfield Rally!
As this is the rollers big homecoming please feel free to come say hi, take some pics and enjoy having Maffra's Golden Roller home for a visit. Stay tuned for more details closer to the day.

Thanks to Wellington Shire Council we have a new weighbridge at the Sugarbeet Museum. The redgum looks brilliant and ready to last at least another 125 plus years. We are not open again until 1st February but you can see the new works by Total Carpentry and Renos at anytime.

A busy time for Maffra - we marked the centenary of the first water from Glenmaggie Weir with a window display in the for Florist shop at 78 Johnson Street, Maffra, and with the Maffra Agricultural Show theme, The Beet Goes On, we will also have a display on the beet industry at the show on Saturday 25 October. If you miss us there, the museum is open from 10 am to 1 pm on Sunday 2 November.

Thanks to the ABC Gippsland news and local Peter Gray, we have a replacement beet topping knife for our display, replacing the one stolen in February. This one was used by Jack Gray when he was a teenager in the 1940s. Our new knife will be securely stored in the vault unless we are open.

With the sun shine forecast for most of the day, take the opportunity to visit the Sugar Beet Museum in McMahon Drive on Sunday (7 September) to learn about this important early industry. We are open from 10 am to 1 pm - as we are on the first Sunday of each month - so you can visit before you head home to enjoy a Father's Day lunch.
