Stanthorpe State High School and the Certificate II Information and Cultural Services students, warmly invite you to attend the opening of the 2026 Stanthorpe State High School Creative Journeys Art Show.

The exhibition will be proudly hosted and supported by the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery at Weeroona Park, with the opening evening on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, at 5.30 pm.

Students will present the artworks and exhibitions created by each year level. Guests will enjoy instrumental music and refreshments as they peruse artworks.

We look forward to celebrating the creativity, talent and artistic journeys of Stanthorpe State High School students, with our school and wider community.

Southern Cross Soloists return to SRAG! Sunday 9 August @ 2pm

Southern Cross Soloists (SXS) are the shining stars of Australian chamber music. Firmly established as one of Australia’s pre-eminent classical music ensembles, SXS delivers programs filled with dazzling virtuosity. Composed of leading virtuosic soloists from Queensland and Australia, SXS provides dynamic, unique, and world-class musical experiences for audiences of all ages.

Our first musical experiences take place at home. These half-remembered melodies carry comfort and joy. Grammy-winning flautist Tim Munro and Queensland Symphony Orchestra harpist Emily Granger love to work together. Their duo program captures the beauty and nostalgia of these tunes, tracing the border between classical and older popular tunes. Music by Bach, Dvorak and Kats-Chernin meets the aching tunes of Simon and Garfunkel and the Beatles.

ARTWORK IN FOCUS
Joanna Gentilli "The half caste child", Oil on canvas, 60cm x 60cm, $900

Artwork Statement:
This is a painting of an Anglo Indian child, based on a photograph of myself taken in Bombay in 1956. It is done entirely in transparent paint, the colour of blood which was a major preoccupation with a mixed blood community. The little girl is in a stiff pink dress, constrained by western furniture and striped wallpaper. Her expression
is anxious and the only clue to her Indian heritage is the small gold earring.

Artist Statement:
As an art historian I taught for many years at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Painting in oils, I use the traditional Old Master’s method in which colour glazes are built up gradually to achieve mood, atmosphere and highly realistic effects. Symbolist, surrealist and naive painting inform practice.

Phil Greed "Calx_what goes around, comes around" Ceramics - wheel thrown ceramics, satin white midfire glaze, gold lustre, coral 16cm x 76cm $2,400

Artwork Statement:
The work is a meditation on the cycle of life. The word calx is rooted in calcium, limestone, and bone; naming the elemental matter that holds life together and, eventually, returns it to the earth. In this body of work, ceramic forms act as vessels for that transition, vessels that also hover between strength and fragility, growth and erosion. Inspired by coral and bodily forms, they hold evidence of touch, memory, and care.

Emerging from witnessing ageing and parental loss, the work understands loss not as disappearance, but transformation; balancing grief and gratitude.

WORKSHOP with Jo Davies
From Wool To Felt - Make Your Own Felted Flower

Sat 18 July 10am – 12.30pm

Learn felt-making & make a felted flower to attach to a hat, beanie or scarf.

Participants will gain an understanding of how felt is made and will have lots of fun learning felt-making skills using wet felting and needle felting techniques with beautiful, colourful wool and silk fibres.

People attending will take home their very own unique felted flower (including a brooch clip) which can be attached to a hat, beanie or scarf - or gifted to a loved one! All materials are included.

Your Facilitator: Jo Davies has been passionate about felting for more than 15 years and has run numerous workshops at arts festivals and community events.
