⚓A Queenscliffe Icon ⚓

The Queenscliffe Lifeboat — affectionately known by the younger generation as “Queenie” — celebrated her 100th birthday last March.

Many people don’t realise this remarkable vessel is lovingly cared for and proudly displayed front and centre inside the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum.

Serving Port Phillip and The Heads from 1926 to 1976, the lifeboat stands as a powerful reminder of days gone by, when brave crews launched into rough seas to protect lives along our coast.

What would Queenscliff be without her still being part of the town’s story?

The photo shows the lifeboat being returned to her original home inside the historic lifeboat shed, which still stands proudly on the pier today.

Visit the museum and discover more about this incredible piece of local maritime history. ⚓

The Queenscliffe Maritime Museum warmly congratulates Coast Guard Queenscliff on receiving the 'Keys to the City' from the Borough of Queenscliffe in recognition of 50 years of service to our community.

For half a century, the Coast Guard has played an essential role in keeping people safe on our waters and supporting our maritime community with dedication, professionalism, and care. Importantly, those 50 years of service also continue a much longer tradition of maritime rescue and community service in Queenscliff — following in the wake of the lifeboat crews, pilots, and volunteers who served on these dangerous waters for many decades before them.

At the entrance to Port Phillip Heads, one of the most challenging stretches of water in Australia, generations of local men and women have answered the call to help others at sea. The service and commitment shown by today’s Coast Guard members proudly builds on that enduring maritime legacy.

We would also like to sincerely thank the Queenscliff Coast Guard for their valued partnership and support in helping deliver the Harbour to Horizon Maritime Festival in March this year. Their involvement and commitment helped make the festival a wonderful celebration of our region’s maritime heritage and community spirit.

Congratulations once again to all past and present members on this remarkable milestone and well-deserved recognition.
