TAKEAWAY: TALES FROM THE FLAVOUR SUPERHIGHWAY

Please join us on Friday 11 September for the exhibition opening of TAKEAWAY: Tales from the Flavour Superhighway, and the launch of the 6th edition of the Canberra Art Biennial (Canberra Art Biennial). 

TAKEAWAY: Tales from the Flavour Superhighway is an artistic project that explores ecological networks, food sovereignty, and decolonial cultural practices. Curated by Denise Thwaites (Denise Thwaites) and Mariam Ella Arcilla (𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐦 𝐄𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚 🪸🪺), TAKEAWAY comprises an exhibition, knowledge-trading sessions, talks, food demos, and tours across Ngunnawal and Ngambri/Canberra and Gadigal/Sydney. The project invites audiences to engage with the complex and regenerative stories that underpin eating and cultivating food by asking them to reimagine social, historical, and cultural systems for community nourishment, while reclaiming food and waste economies.

TAKEAWAY features works by Marley Dawson (marleydawson), Keg de Souza (Keg de Souza), Gianna Christella Hayes (Gianna Christella Hayes Hilum), Gillian Kayrooz (𝕲𝖎𝖑𝖑𝖎𝖆𝖓 𝕶𝖆𝖞𝖗𝖔𝖔𝖟), Zora Pang (Zora Pang), Janhavi Salvi (Janhavi Salvi), and James Tylor (James Tylor).  Presented as part of Canberra Art Biennial 2026, the show is accompanied by a public program at multiple venues across Canberra themed around gastropoetics, food security, and diaspora eating imaginaries. Included in the show is a pop-up reading area by Magenta House (MAGENTA HOUSE) featuring publications that serve as ‘side-dishes’ to the themes explored by project participants of this project.

Ultimately, TAKEAWAY takes a regenerative approach into why and how we eat, while digesting fraught histories and ecologies of land, water and labour.

Reminder to join us tomorrow at 12pm for our final Lunch Time Deep Dive!

Discover Tamara Henderson's solo exhibition - now in its final week at Canberra Contemporary. This walkthrough will discuss the rhythms that underpin Henderson's practice and explore the artist's process of spending time with a subject to the point of ritualisation. In 'The Gardener's Bar', that subject is compost: a process, symbol and intellectual ground from which this work emerges in a world of glass, sculpture, painting, film, sound and text. 🌼

Join us for a special kids workshop to play, make and wonder in the colourful world of Tamara Henderson’s ‘The Gardener’s Bar’.

Work alongside the artist and discover the shapes and colours of different flowers as you arrange your very own unique glass hanging pendant. 🌞🌸🦋

Presented alongside the exhibition at Canberra Contemporary, this workshop invites kids to discover Henderson’s work through the process of making.

This group exhibition features works from emerging to established artists with diverse contemporary practices - from painting and sculpture to photography, textiles, digital media and more. Fostering a space for conversation, connection and an exchange of ideas, this show offers an exciting glimpse into current trends and perspectives from artists in the ACT and surrounding regions.

It's the final few days to visit Platform and see ‘Distant blues, from a little closer’ - Olivia Gates first solo exhibition.

Rather than seeking resolution, the works in this exhibition wander without the need for certainty. The materials hold grounding memories and hope for a once imagined life. They linger with things that feel distant. A quiet pull between leaving something unknown or letting it become familiar.
