This one is all about texture, movement and atmosphere.

Chris’s mark-making is what really draws you in - layered, energetic and wonderfully tactile. The landscape isn’t neatly defined; instead, it feels felt as much as seen, with the vegetation, rocks and distant forms merging into one rich, moody impression.

There’s something wild and untamed about it - a glimpse of the country around Hawker with all its colour, grit and character.

There’s a beautiful sense of movement in the layered brushwork - the land seems to shimmer, shift and stretch towards the horizon. Joy captures Lake Eyre not as a barren expanse, but as a landscape full of colour, texture and unexpected life.

And those little pops of green against all that warmth? Just gorgeous.

There’s no drama here - just big skies, open space and that beautiful feeling of being somewhere far from the everyday. The loose, textured marks give it a dreamy quality, almost like a memory of the landscape rather than a literal view.

There’s a real sense of ancient country and quiet isolation here. The rocky forms feel almost sculptural against the soft sky, while the loose, expressive marks give the whole landscape a sense of movement and atmosphere.

It captures exactly what makes the country around Lake Eyre so captivating - familiar landscape, but somehow completely unlike anywhere else.

This is such a beautifully soft and atmospheric piece. The landscape is barely there - distant hills dissolve into a hazy sky, while delicate washes of blue, peach, lavender and sandy gold create a wonderfully muted sense of place.

Chris has captured that fleeting moment when the country seems to fade into the distance, where you’re not quite sure where the land ends and the sky begins. The subtle texture and gentle marks give it an almost dreamlike quality.

Quiet, understated and incredibly calming - a little piece of wide-open country that feels like a breath of fresh air.

A quiet, expansive landscape that feels almost suspended in time. Soft mauves, dusty rose and warm copper tones ripple across the earth, catching the light in delicate flashes as the road disappears towards the distant horizon.

There’s a beautiful sense of space and stillness here - the kind of landscape that makes you slow down, look a little longer and simply take it in. Joy’s layered marks give the surface a gentle movement, while the restrained palette keeps the overall feeling calm, warm and wonderfully atmospheric.
