Coming up next at Wester Gallery, Catherine Hickson - Songs of Stones

A thoughtful new exhibition exploring landscape, materiality and the quiet language of stones, surfaces and memory. Stones are everywhere. Beneath our feet, in our homes, in the objects we use every day. Familiar yet often overlooked, they carry stories of deep time, transformation and place.

In Songs of Stones, Catherine Hickson brings together still life and abstraction to explore the enduring presence of rocks and stones — from their origins in the landscape to their evolution into vessels, pigment, glass, bricks and everyday objects.

Catherine studied at National Art School and later trained in traditional oil painting at the Charlie Sheard Studio School in Redfern. Hickson has been exhibiting since 2005. Her works are in private collections across Australia and Europe. Catherine lives and works in Newcastle. She has a studio in the Newcastle Art Space.
