MEET THE ARTIST — FIONA HEARD
“I love colour, but do I have a favourite? I’m not sure.”

For artist Fiona Heard, colour is an instinctive and joyful part of her creative practice. She gravitates towards colours found in the Australian landscape - rich greens, earthy ochres and the soft, pale turquoise of calm water.

Working across painting and printmaking, Fiona embraces the qualities of different mediums. She works with oil-based inks for printing, and both oil and acrylic paint in her paintings.

And when asked why she loves working with oils, her answer is wonderfully simple:
“There is nothing quite like the smell of oil paint in the studio.”

Fiona’s work reflects a deep appreciation for colour, texture and the natural world, inviting us to pause, look closely and experience the joy of seeing.

Fiona Heard is a member of Artisan Collective Port Stephens, a vibrant community of local artists showcasing original contemporary art in the heart of Nelson Bay.

MIKE RUMBLE | SCULPTURE
There’s something wonderfully special about giving old timber a new life.

Working with fallen timber and driftwood, Mike allows the natural character, texture and imperfections of each piece to guide the work. Using a combination of modern hand tools alongside traditional adzes, splitting wedges and carving chisels, the timber gradually reveals its own personality.

Rather than striving for perfect, machine-made forms, Mike embraces the beauty of the handmade — creating organic, often abstract sculptures that capture the spirit of the creature within the timber.

Mike has exhibited at Sculptures at Fort Scratchley and Sculptures in the Garden at Mudgee in 2023 and 2024.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING ON THE 5th SEPTEMBER? You’re invited to join the artists.

Kay Hathway & Lianne Manley invite you to experience Salt & Petal — a thoughtful collection exploring the quiet, overlapping boundaries between the sea and botanical form.

A Contemporary Photographic Art Exhibition

Grounded in the philosophy of “a slower way of looking,” this exhibition brings together sweeping, fluid coastal environments with the intimate and fleeting geometry of floral structures.

Both artists are driven by curiosity and considered technical experimentation. Rather than demanding immediate attention, these works invite you to pause, breathe and truly look — creating a grounding presence through subtlety, contrast and restraint.

MEGAN BARRASS | why I keep painting nature and my surroundings -
A. It’s an interesting question for an artist. For me, the answer is the environment I live in and love.
I return again and again to birds, fish, flowers and the coastal landscape of Port Stephens - not to simply reproduce what I see, but because nature offers an endless language of shape, movement, colour, rhythm and energy.
These are the moments that hold my attention.

And something interesting happens when I share the artwork. Collectors often use the word: JOY.
That tells me something important.

Perhaps what they recognise isn’t just a bird, a flower, a fish or a coastal scene.
Perhaps they recognise the feeling of being connected to the natural world.
That is what keeps me painting.

Megan Barrass is a proud member of Artisan Collective Port Stephens, where you can experience her vibrant paintings in person and discover the stories and energy behind each work.

Art isn’t only about what you see.
It’s about what you feel when you see it.

MEET GLASS ARTIST SALLY WALKER
We’re delighted to introduce Sally Walker, whose lifelong creative journey has led her to the captivating world of fused and art glass.

Encouraged by her husband to explore art back in 1994, Sally discovered not only an incredible community of people, but a creative energy within herself that would become an essential part of her life.

Inspired by sacred geometry and nature, Sally creates work that celebrates both the precision and unpredictability of this remarkable medium.

LIZ HEVIA & GOYA TORRES — DUO EXHIBITION

Two powerful artistic voices. Two extraordinary women. One vibrant celebration of creativity, culture and female artists.

We’re thrilled to present Liz Hevia & Goya Torres, whose bold and unapologetic works come together in an exciting exhibition shaped by their Mexican heritage, personal stories and deep commitment to pushing creative boundaries.

Goya Torres blurs the line between fine art and street art, bringing together rich colour, expressive mark-making and powerful characters. Her dynamic practice has been showcased across Australia, Mexico, the USA, UK and Europe through exhibitions, murals, live-painting events and public art projects.

Liz Hevia, a Mexican contemporary artist based in Nelson Bay, creates vibrant, symbolic paintings exploring healing, migration, feminine strength and emotional identity. Her work speaks to personal transformation and the power of creativity.

Together, Liz and Goya invite us into a world of colour, strength, identity and fearless expression.

NOW SHOWING | RHYTHM AND BLUES
Immerse yourself in the creativity of two remarkable artists at Artisan Collective Port Stephens this July.

Gwendolin Lewis captures the raw beauty and power of the NSW coastline through expressive paintings in oils and soft pastels. Inspired by the ever-changing sea, her works are rich with vibrant colour, dynamic textures and masterful drawing, reflecting a lifetime dedicated to artistic excellence. Working from her Mayfield studio, Gwendolin brings together her background in design and fine art to create evocative maritime landscapes that are both energetic and timeless.

Alongside Gwendolin’s paintings, Anne Gazzard presents an exquisite collection of handcrafted porcelain ceramics celebrating the universal language of music. From delicate sound waves that gently dance in the breeze to sculptural interpretations of harps, drums and musical forms, each piece is individually hand-built in Lumina Porcelain and high-fired to create beautifully refined, enduring works of art.

Whether you’re a passionate art collector or simply looking for inspiration, Rhythm and Blues is an exhibition not to be missed.
