Beautiful Alita Knaggs, well know for her contemporary landscape paintings and vast contribution to our art scene. She has been involved in visual arts for most of her life.
Here she answers questions from the
DID YOU KNOW series …

Q What is your favourite art object and why?

A I definitely have a few favourite paint brushes . Some are worn out, precious and irreplaceable. Others  are large, new and long.

Q What is your favourite colour and why?

A I don’t have a favourite colour . But I certainly use a lot of white paint. The subject I paint dictates the colour palette that I use and reflects how I feel in relation to the place or subject matter. I ask myself what am I trying to say

Extremely creative Anne-Maree Hunter answered the two questions from the DID YOU KNOW series …

Here are Anne-Maree’s answers
Q What is your favourite art object ie paint brush, vase, needle, book etc etc etc and why?

A I love the Art Objects the Australian artists Fiona Hall makes but the “Art Tool” I use all the time is an old fashioned bone handled butter knife. It is a multi-use tool used to cut, score & fold art papers, and also as an embossing device. It acts as a bone folder and as a tool that cuts paper leaving a deckled edge rather than a sharp machine cut edge.

Q What is your favourite colour and why?

A From as far back as I can remember it has always been green, most every shade except for those ‘awful’ ones. It is the colour of the environment both on land and in water, and is wonderful to be immersed in. I think it probably is beneficial to my health and wellbeing.

Anne-Maree is a master of printmaking and the intimate art of artist books, weaving texture, narrative, and craftsmanship into every piece she creates. Definitely a must see artist showing gallery, open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm (summer hours), on

DID YOU KNOW series …
We speak to the sensational MAREE CROPLEY

Maree crochets with natural fibres and braided cotton cords to create handcrafted accessories for the home and individual.

Maree’s Favourite Creating Object -
My 5mm crochet hook is an essential part of my practice. It has been instrumental in the creation of countless baskets, becoming both a trusted tool and a familiar companion in the process. Over time, we’ve developed a seamless working rhythm—one that allows ideas to flow effortlessly from concept to form.

And her Favourite Colour is -
Blue, in all its shades, is a colour I’m continually drawn to. It carries a sense of calm and quiet reassurance—an underlying feeling that everything is as it should be. To introduce contrast and vitality, I often turn to green, which brings a fresh, energising balance to my palette.

Maree has a large selection of must-see works showing Nelson Bay

Love to introduce you to the fabulous painter Anna Webster; if you don’t know her work, you may wish you do; visit open 7 days. Anna’s works enriches the walls.

We asked Anna our two questions from
DID YOU KNOW series …
What is your favourite art object and why?

I have a deep affection for my stubby, long-bristle paint brushes. There’s something wonderfully unapologetic about them — they’re not delicate or precious. I use them to push paint rather than politely place it, really mooshing colour across the canvas with those blunt, stumpy ends.

What is your favourite colour and why?

Yellow, without question. It carries its own kind of sunshine — warm, uplifting, and impossible to ignore. It’s the colour of joy.
Interestingly, I don’t use it much in my artwork - maybe I should do a yellow abstract!
What do you think - yes??
