MIAC Macleay Island Arts Complex Inc. MIAC is a not for profit community led Arts Complex on beautiful Macleay Island.

In addition to our gallery, we offer a range of painting & pottery classes, excursions, competitions and performances.

Thinking about joining the MIAC Committee?

We don't have a date for our AGM yet, but now's a good time to start thinking about whether you could nominate for a Committee position.

At every AGM, all Committee members step down and a fresh democratic election is held. The current positions held are President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer. To form a Committee we need at least a President, Secretary and Treasurer.

We're looking for people who are willing to work and to learn good governance if they don't already know it. These roles aren't just titles. They come with real responsibility and accountability, so we need people who are ready to commit, not just fill a gap for a while.

What a fantastic celebration of art and friendship was had this week with the opening of the Suzie Catton Monochrome Art Challenge 2026 and Prize Ceremony.

A massive thank you to everyone who harmoniously collaborated together to organise the Monochrome Art Challenge 2026 by improving the rules, creating the judges scoresheet, creating the entrant information sheet, selecting the theme and colour, ordering the clay and glaze, the canvases and paint, and putting the kits and entry forms together; Michaela Olsen, Therese King (Head of 2D) - who also paid for many canvases, hanging wire, extra kit bags and paint herself, Wendy Steele, Beth Leach, Jackie Broodryk (who at the time was Head of 3D) and others behind the scenes.

Thank you to those who donated prize money from their own pockets because we had frozen bank accounts and limited funds; Susan Tobin, Beth Leach, Paula Bowie and the potters, and Marian Rigney.

Thanks to Lynn Priestley, Michele Grey, Beth Leach, the office staff, front desk staff and Michaela Olsen for overseeing the processing of data, distributing information, creating the advertising, creating The Loop, moderating the page and updating it, and fielding any questions from entrants.

A big thank you to the Curating team who hung and displayed the entries on Monday; Michele Grey, Boyd Ashton, Therese King, and Paula Bowie.

To the judges and those who organised the judges; Jackie Gasson OAM, Marian Hughes, Julie Kane, Roger Catton, Paula Bowie, Beth Leach, and Therese King.

Thanks to Jan De Rooy for doing up the prize certificates, prize signs, painting the monochrome letters, and decorating the tables in green.

Thank you to Beth and Sharon for buying and organising the afternoon tea.

Thank you to the Food and Bar Team who cleaned, scrubbed, and organised the kitchen and storage rooms over the last two months to get it back up and ready to run for events like this; Lynne and John O’Heihr, Wendy Steele, Jennifer Gould, Neil Hocking, Yvonne McCardle, Annette Vita, Sandra Graham, Mike Brandwood, and Maree Bradbury.

Thank you to the Committee for their work towards satisfying the necessary checklist that the Environmental Health Inspector insisted were carried out prior to the cafe and bar being used again.

Thank you to Marie Peters, Carol Batten, and Catherine Marsh for buying the finger food, preparing it, serving it, manning the bar, and any others of that team who helped in the last couple of days.

A massive shout out to Liz Hall-Downs and Kim Downs from Swampfish, who are part of the MIAC Performing Arts Team, thank you for their exquisite roots-blues-alternate country music on the MIAC stage.

We are thrilled to announce to our membership that Tracey Bradley has accepted the Committee’s invitation to fill the casual vacancy of Secretary of MIAC! Tracey comes with a wealth of experience as an Executive Assistant, has worked at the Cultural Council, has lived in the Territory and had a lot to do with First Nation’s affairs, and has been on numerous Committee’s in the role of Secretary. We are so blessed to have her at our organisation. Tracey is a great team player; she’s intuitive, positive, emotionally intelligent, tolerant of people’s IT skills in our volunteer run office 😂, has a great sense of humour and is easy to be around. Welcome Tracey and thank you so much!
