Salt Water Murris' - Quandamooka Aboriginal Art Gallery

Salt Water Murris' - Quandamooka Aboriginal Art Gallery Saltwater Murris Quandamooka Art Centre is located At Gumpi (Dunwich) on beautiful Minjerribah, on Quandamooka Country. Yura - greetings!

The gallery is only 45 minutes from the Brisbane CBD and 30 minutes by water taxi from mainland Queensland. In our language we greet you to our country, Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) and our Art Gallery. Visit our gallery and see a variety of art and craft all for sale. See artworks and crafts by our Elders through to the younger generation. Salt Water Murris’ Quandamooka Inc is a not for

profit organisation comprised of direct descendants of the original Nunukal,
Ngugi and the Gorenpul clans of the region. The Aboriginal people of Minjerribah have an uninterrupted history of living on Quandamooka country that dates back thousands of years. As artists, we are storytellers of our people.

“Our art is important to us because it allows us to give our true spirit into something we create out of something Mother Earth (Budjong Djara) has given us and to continue our role as storytellers. Our people tell stories and pass on important cultural knowledge through our art. Our people create with the natural elements of shells and sand from the foreshores; they collect water, wood, plant fibres of native plants from the bush, creeks, lakes and swamps. Through these acts of creations, our culture continues to live today." "Through our art, all the ancestors that lived on Quandamooka from the beginning of time, through our bloodlines, still exist, as long as we have the art.”

Salt Water Murris’ Quandamooka Aboriginal Art Gallery strives to support the maintenance and promotion of the unique and rich culture of the Quandamooka people to share with the wider community. This includes assisting artistic and professional development of Indigenous artists as well as creating cultural and employment opportunities. SWMQ does this by:

- Conducting school holiday art activities.
- Supplying a unique line of handmade local designed corporate gifts.
- Operating an indigenous owned and managed enterprise.
- Producing commissions and public art work.
- Participating in exhibitions throughout Australia and overseas.
- Coordinating cultural projects and activities.
- Conducting workshops for schools or group bookings at the gallery
workshop area for screen printing, sand art, weaving, painting and
linocut. Sand art can also come to your location (Brisbane area).
- manages the facilitation of cultural productions and professional
development opportunities for Quandamooka artists.

✨ Salt Water Murris Quandamooka at Destination IQ Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre

Salt Water Murris Quandamooka is proud to showcase the depth of Quandamooka art, culture and creativity at this year’s Destination IQ.

Our artists and cultural practitioners are sharing stories of Sea Country, Jandai language, and contemporary First Nations design, highlighting why culture remains central to tourism, education and community.

From visual art and fashion, to weaving, language and storytelling, SWMQ celebrates the strong cultural foundations of the Nunagal, Ngugi & Goenbal peoples of Quandamooka Country — and the growing impact of First Nations–led arts and cultural tourism across Queensland.

Thank you to QITC and Destination IQ for creating space for our voices, our stories, and our artists.
