The Old Auction House An Independent Creative Hub in Kyneton, Supporting creativity and art in the Macedon Ranges.

The Old Auction House is a creative hub showcasing the emerging artists and creatives of Regional Victoria and beyond. With two Galleries that specialise in emerging and mid-career contemporary artists individually and in group shows, an Australian Handmade Shop featuring more than 100 makers as well as a busy schedule of Creative Workshops by an ever expanding list of local artists in everything from Silver Jewellery to Leadlight or Illustration. The space is also home to Leadlight By Ettore, a multi-generational glass arts teaching studio and Kyneton Craftery, a craft and maker studio who run both adult workshops and kids birthday parties in a range of crafts including polymer clay, jewellery making and scrapbooking. The DiPilla family bought the derelict historic 1880's timber building in 2016, known in the town as the Ferris Auction House which it housed for 90 years. The 1/4 acre under roof building was in uninhabitable condition and after six months of intensive renovations, the shop and glass studio were opened with the gallery and more artist studios opened 3 months later. The Old Auction House officially opened on April 22nd 2017 and remains a completely family-owned creative hub in Regional Victoria. The restoration of the back sections of the building are currently on hold but are hoped to add another large creative teaching studio to the hub.

Mix & Mess opened in the Studio Gallery today, it is the culmination of Emily’s Term Acrylic Painting Class Students work for the last year. They have have explored technique, composition and colour theory to produce a a varied and vibrant body of work worth celebrating.

The exhibiting students are Amy McKenzie, Caroline Brockhoff, Dianne Aitken, Karen Stevens, Kerry Coxon, Kez Bell-Merrick, Laura Evans, Lorena Russell, Luigi Borrelli, Marita Davies, & Peter Outhred.

Continuing with the theme of Textile Art Supplies in our series about the ranges we hold in our shops art section, we have Acid Dyes by Jacquard. Despite their name Acid Dyes are not hard or scary to use, they use citric acid or vinegar along with heat to set the dyes permanently on Natural Protein Fibers, so think Wool, Silk, Feathers, Mohair as well as on Nylon fabrics and Nylon plastic products.

Jacquard's known for their deep, rich, and brilliant shades that produce a beautiful even finish without patchiness, that do not fade or bleed in the wash once set. They are normally painted, dipped, tye-dyed or batch dyed easily and are used by many indie wool and silk manufacturers.

I can't explain it but a electronic heat pad never quite hits the same as a traditional heat pad when it comes to relieving those aches and pains.

These mini hand warmers, heat packs and eye packs by Bek from Bek & Eula are handmade in Victoria, are filled with Australian Wheat, unscented and come with removable covers so they still look pretty and clean use after use!

So excited to welcome our New Brand ✨ Wild Enchantments ✨ to our range of artists and makers in store!
Wendy designs these mini sculptures not only to be worn, but to show her love and connection to nature and hope you will carry that with you as you wear them.

She designs each piece in her studio in Queensland, then delicately hand sculpts them in wax, that is then cast in a local Australian foundry in either Brass or 925 Sterling Silver, before it is painstakingly refined, polished and hung on a matching necklace ready to be worn with love.

This is your last weekend to see Dina Goebel's exhibition Fragile Futures in the the Studio Gallery. This exhibition brings together intimate sculptural objects and larger installation works that transform contemporary material by-products into forms of attraction, uncertainty and environmental unease. The pieces are focused on marine-inspired forms, specimen-like objects, human relics and imagined future species to reflect on what we make, what we value and what we leave behind.

Back to our Monday series on ranges of Art Supplies we hold in store and today we have iDye by Jacquard, and it has to be one of our biggest sellers.

The best bit about iDye is if your dyeing a cotton fabric, like that dress you love the fit of but in a dated colour, or those jeans or work pants that are a little too faded, simply put the clothes in the washing machine with the dye sachet on a hot wash and you are done. Perfectly dyed with zero effort and zero mess, and no it won't dye the inside of your machine!

If the clothes are polyester or a polyester/cotton mix, you do have to boil them in a pot on the stove but still at $14 it is worth the effort to save a favourite piece of clothing from landfill and cheaper than buying a new pair of pants!

You can also use the polyester dye on plastics including most 3d printed plastics, or add just water to a little bit of either dye powder and paint it on and them just heat set it.
