“An animal’s eyes have the power to speak a great language.” — Martin Buber

Handmark's 'Affordable Art' exhibition has a selection of artworks featuring exquisitely rendered animals, not simply as subjects, but as presences. Observed, imagined, abstracted or rendered with fine detail, each work holds a kind of dialogue between human and animal, viewer and viewed.

There is something enduring in our pull toward the world of animals. These works capture fleeting gestures, watchful gazes, and the subtle poetry of creatures who move alongside us, often just beyond our notice.

With over 80 works across the exhibition, 'Affordable Art' invites you to find a connection, something that speaks, quietly or boldly, in its own language.

This selection of works, currently showing in Handmark's 'Affordable Art' exhibition brings together works that speak in the language of abstraction. Artworks where gesture, colour, and form take the lead, and meaning-making holds intentionality and interpretation in unity. Emerging artist Wilhelmina Burnell joins Handmark with her whimsical abstract paintings that explode with joy, a deep connection to the waterways of lutruwita/Tasmania underpin this talented artist's practice.

From her earliest days in infancy on the water to painting en plein air alongside her family, these experiences flow through her practice. Back in the studio, they transform into bold, expressive worlds, simultaneously landscape and underwater dream, where organic forms drift, gather and reveal themselves slowly to the eye.

Colour is her lifeblood, instinctive and joyful, carrying each work with a sense of energy and quiet wonder.

We’re delighted to welcome Wilhelmina to the Handmark family.

Handmark Artists

ART is within reach. Handmark’s Affordable Art Exhibition brings together a curated collection of works by leading Handmark artists, with every piece priced under $5,000.

From striking landscapes to contemporary abstraction, the exhibition offers something special for both new and established collectors.

“Our mission is to make art accessible,” Handmark Director Allanah Dopson explains. “This showing offers a wonderful opportunity for first-time buyers to begin their collection, while also giving seasoned collectors the chance to acquire artworks by emerging talent, or perhaps a piece by some of the island’s most respected artists.”

And, just in case any further incentive is needed, almost all works will be eligible for the Government’s Art Collect Scheme ... with the exception of a couple of our artists who live interstate or overseas.
If you have a business, the Australian Government is still offering 100% tax write-off on art purchases up to $20,000 - creating a compelling opportunity to invest in art.
 
Handmark’s Affordable Art Exhibition will run from May 22 to June 15.
