Inka Gallery Inka Gallery was an artist run gallery promoting local Tasmanian artists in printmaking, painting, photography and drawing.

This page is now primarily to keep in touch with previous members and promote their exhibitions. Inka Gallery is a not-for-profit artist run initiative that was situated in the Salamanca Arts Centre in Salamanca Place, Hobart’s iconic waterfront arts district for over twenty years. The gallery offered a fully curated annual exhibition program featuring the works of emerging, career and award-winning independent Tasmanian contemporary artists. The gallery shelves showcased works in a variety of mediums including unique state and limited edition prints, original paintings in oils, acrylics and watercolours, pastel and pen and ink drawings. We closed the gallery doors on March 1, 2022 however we are still promoting our artists on line.

Sad to hear that one of our long standing inka members, Karen Armstrong, passed away. Her whimsical dream calligraphy prints were very popular with inka customers and she will live on through her artworks, and remembered also for her poetry.

If you are taking your children to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) in Hobart during the holidays you may like to seek out my "Cafe au lait" drawing on display. It is hanging in their fabulous permanent children's mapiya lumi / around here exhibition. Iconic Tasmanian artist Peter Barraclough leaves behind a remarkable legacy.

Yesterday we were told the sad news of the passing on the 1st of September of the legendary Tasmanian artist Peter Barraclough.

We've been so fortunate to have known Peter for the last 20 years during our gallery lives in the Salamanca Arts Centre and have been privileged to have worked representing him through the last few.

Peter was not only an accomplished, inspirational yet humble artist and teacher but a genuinely lovely person and friend.

A little piece of Salamanca has been lost but the sunsets will be far more colourful with his spirit amongst them.

Sending our heartfelt thoughts and sympathies to Jennifer and family.
