Live the folklore and romance of yesterday’s Australia in every piece of this eye-opening collection. The award-winning attraction is more than a vintage precinct – it’s a tangible buzz of things past with over 50 original buildings with intact interior displays, original machinery and vehicles, plus thousands of antique items and period memorabilia. It is regarded as the most significant vintage

collection ever assembled in Queensland, and is located just outside the township of Herberton high on the Atherton Tablelands, about 90 minutes drive from Cairns.

One more sleep to go!

Pioneer Weekend kicks off tomorrow at the Historic Village Herberton and the gates open from 9am.

There’s something happening around every corner with live music from the Jeanette Wormald Trio, Sligo, Now or Never, Bella Ca****la and the Tableland Ukulele Group, plus roaming performances from Lochlan Collinson.

Take a steam train ride, watch blacksmithing and woodworking demonstrations, explore working engines and vintage machinery, enjoy bush cooking at Pioneer Camp, meet the teachers at the old Herberton State School, have a go at creating your own wanted poster and settle in for a screening of Herberton, Heart of the North.

Children can enjoy old-fashioned games, hay wagon rides and the playground, while fashion lovers can enter Fashions on the Field at 11am both days.

Add in market stalls, camp oven cooking, home-made treats, vintage vehicles, tractors, sawmills and one of Australia’s largest collections of pioneering history and you have got a weekend worth stepping back in time for.

The program has landed and Pioneer Weekend is shaping up to be one big step back in time. Steam train rides. Blacksmithing. Working engines. Pioneer fashions on the field. Live music across the Village. Hay wagon rides, market stalls, storytelling and enough old machinery to make your grandad emotional.

From the John Deere tractors to the sawmill demonstrations and camp oven cooking across the bridge at Pioneer Camp, there is something happening around almost every corner of the Historic Village Herberton this weekend.

Grab a program, plan your day and maybe leave a little extra time… because nobody gets through the Village quickly on Pioneer Weekend.
