Aeon II
Cathy Blanchflower

Opening 5pm Saturday 3 October

On show 4 - 18 October

Aeon II presents new paintings consisting of dynamic fields, hovering between stillness and flux while hinting at both cosmic and microscopic origins.

Shifting and intangible spaces search for a feeling or presence which cannot be painted directly, but rather revealed within layers and visible structures of paint.

These works were completed during and after time spent at an artists' residency in Bangkok, Thailand in 2026.

A practicing artist for over 30 years, Cathy Blanchflower's paintings explore colour, light, space and movement within the field of organic abstraction. She is represented in the collections of Art Gallery of Western Australia, National Gallery of Australia, University of Sydney, Artbank, Wesfarmers, Curtin University of Technology, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, Holmes A Court Collection, University of Western Australia, as well as private national and international collections.

The Artist

Lawrence Roycroft is a purist at heart and has been photographing since 1994 after completing his BA (Photo) at Curtin University. These infrared photographs were taken from Perth to Tasmania, using single exposures and minimal post-processing.

Infrared transforms the familiar Australian landscape into something timeless. The harsh Australian sunlight, rather than a hindrance, becomes a source of intense drama and ethereal beauty — deep luminous skies intersected by white clouds, with trees and plants alive with a glowing vibrancy. Long exposures create transient moments, the permanence of mountains contrasting beautifully with the gentle swaying of branches or the rippling of moving waters.

At a time when images are increasingly laboring toward a 'postcard' perfection, these landscapes offer something different — slow, personal, present and weighty, cause for reflection and pause.

Transience is his first exhibition. He invites you to enjoy the work in the hope that in looking carefully, you find something worth pausing for.
