THINKING OF A PLACE
AMBER AND EAMON NUTTALL
——
Meet the artist: One half of the duo behind 'Thinking of a Place', Amber Nuttall captures narratives from her immediate environment, drawing inspiration from interior scenes and natural landscapes. Her work begins with quick sketches of everyday sights and objects, which evolve into oil paintings shaped by memory and imagination. A multidisciplinary artist, Amber's practice spans painting, drawing, and ceramics.
——
'Thinking of a Place' captures moments in time. Reflecting on memory, the viewer is immersed in scenes from journeys both near and far: a colourful marketplace, a balcony nestled in the trees, and the busy rhythm of the street. Each work reaches outward, drawing the viewer in.

This exhibition began as a conversation while swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. Siblings Amber and Eamon were travelling through Sicily, journeying from village to village, through the mountains and along the coast. As they photographed and sketched the landscapes around them, they were inspired to bring their complementary practices together for this exhibition.

WILD CALM
JUSTINE WAHLIN
——
Currently on display at Brunswick Street Gallery, NSW-based artist Justine Wahlin's 'Wild Calm' transforms landscape-inspired marks into imagined scenes, inviting interpretation and surprise.
——
Justine’s paintings combine a range of materials, including crushed rock pigments, charcoal, pastels, wax crayon, acrylic, and oil paint. The resulting surfaces carry a frenetic energy, occasionally punctuated with open space, echoing the movement of walking through the landscape itself.

Through these works, Justine holds both calm and energy in tension, reflecting nature’s power to soothe and nurture the mind, existing without fixed order, yet endlessly generating patterns that open new spaces again and again.

CURRENT EXHIBITION–‘FRAGMENTS OF URBAN ESSENCE’
ZORY MCGRATH
——
Zory McGrath’s 'Fragments of Urban Essence' celebrates the beauty and materiality of the urban landscape.
——
The paintings presented as part of this exhibition reveal glimpses of buildings and street-fronts on Brunswick Street, around Fitzroy and parts of Collingwood.
Discarded plasterboard sourced locally from Zory McGrath’s urban explorations is transformed into a tactile ground, creating a dialogue between past and present.
Through the use of reclaimed materials, Zory underscores a commitment to sustainability while highlighting the resilience embedded within the built environment.

Architectural elements recur throughout the work, reflecting the shifting nature of the urban landscape—honouring what has come before while acknowledging the inevitability of change. Viewers are invited to engage with these fragments and uncover the stories they hold, celebrating the layered histories that shape our cities.
Fragments of Urban Essence becomes both a meditation on the beauty of the everyday and an invitation to consider our role in preserving the narratives woven into the urban fabric.
——
EXHIBITION DATES:
28 MAY–14 JUNE 2026

Visit our website for full details on ‘Fragments of Urban Essence’ and further information on all upcoming exhibitions or visit the gallery Tuesday–Saturday 10AM–5PM and Sunday 11AM–4PM.

ONE WEEK LEFT TO APPLY – GROUP EXHIBITION OPPORTUNITY

WINTER GLOW
11–26 JULY
——
There is only one week left to apply for Brunswick Street Gallery's next group exhibition 'Winter Glow'.

"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire." – Edith Sitwell

'Winter Glow' is a group exhibition paying homage to the warmth found during the season’s shorter days and long nights, in the sun’s fleeting rays, the warmth of a fire, and the connections fostered by the physical closeness the season invites. Viewers are invited to experience this time of year through the reflective eyes of the exhibiting artists.
——
Whether working in still life, portraiture, landscape painting, or object making, artists are invited to respond to the warmth, light, colour, connections, and emotions evoked by their own interpretation of 'Winter Glow'.

We welcome submissions across all mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, textiles, installation, digital media, and experimental practices.

For more information follow the link in our bio or head to the Exhibit With Us page on our website. Applications should be submitted to [email protected]

——
Looking for a Sunday activity? Why not stop by Brunswick Street Gallery to view our five new exhibitions. 'Meandering' is a series of ink drawings by emerging artist Jordan O'Connor, whose background in science and conservation shapes their practice.
——
‘Meandering’ acts as a vehicle with which to navigate and make sense of the world around us. The exhibition’s call for slow observing invites the viewer to spark dialogue with place, reimagining the ordinary and allowing time to dwell on its overlooked beauty. The intersection of spaces, both natural and built, generates a particular kind of aesthetic sensation, as we witness the bleeding of anthropogenic detritus into the last of our natural landscapes.
——
Visit our website for the full details of ‘Meandering’ and further information on all current exhibitions or visit the gallery Tuesday–Saturday 10AM–5PM and Sunday 11AM–4PM.

JUSTINE WAHLIN
——
After a hugely successful opening event last night our five new exhibitions are back open this morning for viewing across the whole weekend. Stop by the gallery today to view all of the new exhibitions including 'Wild Calm', an exhibition of abstract landscape inspired works from artist Justine Wahlin.
——
Justine begins each work by drawing lines in direct response to the moving landscape. Back in the studio, these marks evolve into imagined landscapes that retain a strong sense of place. Within the lines, animals and figures sometimes emerge, though care is taken not to overwork these elements, leaving space for surprise and allowing viewers to form their own interpretations.

Visit our website for the full details of ‘Wild Calm’ and further information on all current exhibitions or visit the gallery Tuesday–Saturday 10AM–5PM and Sunday 11AM–4PM.
