Life Drawing with Nalda Searles

📅 13 May 2026, Wednesday
🕕 Set up from 6:00 pm | Drawing starts 6:30 pm
📍 Ellenbrook Arts, 34 Main St, Ellenbrook

We are honoured to welcome acclaimed Western Australian fibre artist Nalda Searles as our special portraiture model for this Life Drawing session.

Based in Middle Swan, Nalda has spent decades shaping the Australian arts landscape through her deeply intuitive practice. Working with interpretive marks, found objects, and natural materials including bush plant fibres and hand-made string, her work reflects a profound connection to place, community, and storytelling.

Nalda has collaborated extensively with Indigenous women and artists across Western Australia, and has shared her knowledge through teaching at universities, learning institutions, and community art centres throughout Perth. Her works are held in prestigious national and international collections, and her bush camps have inspired generations of contemporary artists across disciplines.

This is a rare opportunity to draw from an artist whose life and practice are embedded in the textures and narratives of this land.

✏️ All skill levels welcome

Have you ever tried creating immersive art?

Being an artist isn’t just about drawing or painting, it’s about connecting with all your senses and telling your story in ways that feel true to you. That might be through digital technology, music, acting, movement, or even an everyday activity like playing ping pong.

Immersive Field is an after-school workshop where you can relax, explore, and channel your leftover energy into creative expression.

Every week offers something different:

-digital media experiments,
-sound and music creation,
-acting games,
-drawing sessions, or
playful challenges that transform how you use a shared space.

No experience needed. Just curiosity.

You’ll be guided by Fremantle-based and international artists who will help you discover new ways of thinking, moving, and creating. Expect hands-on activities, sensory experiences, and fun teamwork that encourages you to express yourself in unexpected ways.

Come along, explore, and uncover new talents you didn’t know you had.

The workshops are facilitated by Elisabeth Eitelberger & Bello Benischauer

We’re excited to welcome Spare Parts Puppet Theatre to Ellenbrook Arts for a magical Puppet Playtime session inspired by Thelma the Unicorn by Aaron Blabey.

This playful and imaginative experience invites children to step into the story through performance, creativity and shared discovery. Together, we’ll explore themes of curiosity, kindness, imagination and self-acceptance in a gentle, engaging way that supports social and emotional wellbeing.

Each 60-minute session begins with a lively, performative reading led by a professional artist, followed by three hands-on creative activities inspired by the story. These activities encourage creative play, empathy and expression, giving children space to explore ideas through making and movement. Small group sizes ensure the experience feels personal, relaxed and immersive.

About Thelma the Unicorn
Thelma is an ordinary pony who dreams of being extraordinary. When her wish to become a unicorn comes true, she soon learns that fame and glitter aren’t everything. This much-loved story celebrates being yourself and reminds us that who you are is already enough.

Written by Aaron Blabey.
