🐝 Bee Hotel

Over six weeks, artist Joanne Clark Joanne Ruth Clark Artist worked with Years 5 & 6 students at Malvern Springs Primary School to develop a striking bee hotel. 🌱

The workshops began with participants learning about native bee habitats and their ecological importance. They then explored their ideas through drawings and 3D models, considering how to create a safe and functional sanctuary for local bees.

Through spatial problem-solving, experimentation and reflection, the workshop developed creativity and critical thinking skills in young people. 🎨

The final result is a collaborative bee hotel created by Joanne and the students. An operational sanctuary where bees can find shelter and children can observe and learn from these important pollinators. 💛

This project was part of the Together Creating: Creative Learning Artist Residency Program, proudly supported by the WA Government, Ellenbrook Arts and the City of Swan.

We’re inviting all young artists who took part in our My Story My World workshops to submit an artwork they created during the program for our upcoming Ellenbrook Youth Exhibition: My Story My World.

This is your chance to see your artwork displayed in a real gallery, share your ideas and creativity with the community, and be part of an exhibition celebrating the stories, experiences and imaginations of young people in our community.

Since 2015, the Ellenbrook Art Award has celebrated and supported the incredible visual artists of Western Australia — and we’re inviting artists from across the state to enter in 2026.

Three inspiring exhibitions now showing at Ellenbrook Arts HQ – explore contemporary printmaking, textile art, and reflections on Australia’s natural environment.

Gallery 1 – Garbage Girl by Dana Stoll

In Garbage Girl, Dana Stoll transforms secondhand materials into intricate embroidered artworks embellished with beads and sequins. Through careful hand stitching and repurposed textiles, Stoll celebrates creativity, sustainability, and the beauty of giving discarded objects a new life.

Gallery 2 – Monotypes by Den L Scheer

Den L Scheer celebrates the beauty and character of Australia’s native wildlife through the unique art of printmaking. Featuring expressive monotype prints of beloved Australian animals, this exhibition captures the spirit, movement, and individuality of creatures from our natural landscape. Rich in texture and detail, Monotypes offers a fresh and engaging perspective on the fauna that make Australia so distinctive.

Gallery 3 – What is Disappearing by Xiaoyu Yang

What is Disappearing is a captivating exhibition exploring the fragile beauty of native Australian flora. Through thoughtful and evocative works, Yang reflects on the quiet disappearance of plant species, habitats, and ecological knowledge, inviting audiences to pause and consider what is being lost. Both poetic and timely, the exhibition celebrates Australia’s unique botanical heritage while encouraging us to notice, protect, and remember.

🎨 The Stylus is Mightiest! Digital Illustration for Teens. Love drawing? Learn how to bring your characters and stories to life with digital art!

Join digital illustrator, storyteller, and game designer Jake Bamford from Dapper Cranium Studios for a fun 4-week course exploring digital illustration, character design, visual storytelling, and creative concepts. Participants will create their own digital artworks while learning essential techniques including brushes, layers, colour, shading, and texture.

Life Drawing with Nalda Searles

We are honoured to welcome acclaimed Western Australian fibre artist Nalda Searles as our special portraiture model for this Life Drawing session.

Based in Middle Swan, Nalda has spent decades shaping the Australian arts landscape through her deeply intuitive practice. Working with interpretive marks, found objects, and natural materials including bush plant fibres and hand-made string, her work reflects a profound connection to place, community, and storytelling.

Nalda has collaborated extensively with Indigenous women and artists across Western Australia, and has shared her knowledge through teaching at universities, learning institutions, and community art centres throughout Perth. Her works are held in prestigious national and international collections, and her bush camps have inspired generations of contemporary artists across disciplines.

This is a rare opportunity to draw from an artist whose life and practice are embedded in the textures and narratives of this land.
