UP NEXT// WILD GEOMETRY

ca Gallery is delighted to present Wild Geometry, the latest joint exhibition by Pam Walpole and Adrienne Williams. Following a trip together ealier this year to the Northern Rivers, NSW, the duo have been working toward October’s exhibition, continuing their conversations between their separate coastal studios located in the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay-Burnett regions respectively. This exhibition, and in truth most of their abstract landscape paintings are site responsive, to time and place, with this new collection capturing this iconic coastline and the artists’ shared journey.

Pam and Adrienne both live near the sea and in February this year they took a seaside sketching holiday together. Bundling up their drawings and giant canvas at the end of that week and returning to their home studios, they’ve spent the year working and sending images back and forth. This ebb and flow became an uninterrupted conversation about colour, shape and texture of the wild geometry on the shores they’d been exploring. Compositions and colour have been shaped by tessellated rock platforms and pools in Yamba, jagged coastlines, the strike of a tree trunk across a field of view, and mangrove pods floating to their next grounding place.

Despite exchanges about its ‘tricky nature’, they’ve also plunged into the dangerous waters of painting with greens. Pam and Adrienne have loved the companionship of another joint project even though they worked almost 300km apart, and they agree they have stretched and celebrated each others’ practices in these new landscapes.

NOW ON VIEW: ‘The Door’ | Sue Gill | last days

ca Gallery is delighted to be hosting ‘The Door’, the latest solo exhibition by Sue Gill.

In this exhibition a new collection of abstract impressionist works on canvas and paper will feature alongside a selection of earlier paintings from the mid 2000’s. While not a true artist survey, these two collections provide a unique opportunity to explore the journey of an artist, of marks and recurring symbols, navigating and expressing the continual movement of life.

This exhibition will until 30 September.

ca Gallery is delighted to present The Door, the latest solo exhibition by Sue Gill.

In this exhibition a new collection of abstract impressionist works on canvas and paper will feature alongside a selection of earlier paintings from the mid 2000’s. While not a true artist survey, these two collections provide a unique opportunity to explore the journey of an artist, of marks and recurring symbols, navigating and expressing the continual movement of life.

This exhibition will run 8-30 September, with an opening on Saturday 12th September, 5-7pm.

Sue Gill is an established Australian abstract artist residing on the Sunshine Coast. She studied Graphic Design at Swinburne Institute of Technology and completed a Fine Art degree at the Victorian College of Art (VCA) in 1981. Gill has held more than 11 solo exhibitions across Melbourne and Sydney, and more recently here on the Sunshine Coast, and participated in more than 30 selected and group exhibitions. This is Sue’s first solo exhibition here at the gallery.

Sue Gill’s abstract impressionist paintings have long featured personal symbols, overtly and repeatedly. In this instance doorways, often black or dark in colour, yet perceptively optimistic, appear as implicit thresholds from the conscious to the unconscious parts of the self.

In this exhibition a new collection of works on canvas and paper will feature alongside a selection of earlier paintings from the mid 2000’s. COMING UP// Sue Gill

Sue Gill is an established Australian abstract artist residing on the Sunshine Coast. She has held more than 11 solo exhibitions across Melbourne and Sydney, and more recently here on the Sunshine Coast, and participated in more than 30 selected and group exhibitions. Gill has recently returned from two residencies in Barcelona and Tagle, Spain.

She creates abstract paintings predominantly in oil, charcoal and oilsticks on canvas and paper. Her work is forthright and expressionistic, with distinct mark-making and symbolism recurring across her works. In this exhibition a new collection of works on canvas and paper will feature alongside a selection of earlier paintings from the mid 2000’s.

FEATURED ARTIST// we are delighted to welcome back to the gallery roster the wonderful Des Rolph

Rolph is a Sunshine Coast based artist who completed her Masters in Visual Art at QCA, Griffith University in 2014. Her major project explored the importance that plein air studies have on capturing the essence of a landscape, that can be further explored in a more creative process in the studio. Consequently her work responds emotionally to the various landscapes she has explored.

She has been finalist in some of Australia’s highly regarded art competitions, such as the Sunshine Coast Art Prize (SCAP), the Waltzing Matilda Art Prize, and the Heysen Prize for Landscape. Her work has been collected in Australia and internationally.
