s, people and vehicles that have shaped our motoring history through the decades. See famous and little known vehicles such as the 1899 steam-powered Shearer, the legendary Leyland Brothers Land Rover and Tom Kruse's 1934 Leyland Badger, to name just a few. Discover how motor vehicles have opened up our country, linking some of the most isolated communities in the world. What an incredible journey! Today marks the beginning of National Reconciliation Week. This year's theme is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoplesโ€™ rights isnโ€™t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.

Spotlight on Solid Ground: a history of the Birdwood Mill ๐Ÿ”ฆ

This exhibition explores the history of the Museum site from its origins before German settlers established the town and built the first flour mill, to its abandonment and new life as a museum.

Step into the basement of the heritage mill to see original milling equipment as well as the luxurious Brough Superior motorbike owned by museum founder Jack Kaines, one of the first objects in the collection. ๐Ÿ๏ธ

We recently had a very special visitor to the museum! ๐Ÿ‘€

Mal Leyland stopped by to take a look at the 1956 Land Rover Series 1, one of the two original cars used in the West-East crossing, which is now on display at the museum.๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ›ž

It's been 60 years since Mal and Mike Leyland set off from Steep Point in WA to Cape Byron in NSW, marking the first time Australia had been crossed from west to east by car! ๐Ÿš—This historic journey was documented in 'Wheels Across a Wilderness', the film they made about the crossing. ๐Ÿœ๏ธ๐Ÿ“บ

On Anzac Day we remember our troops who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

This postcard was sent from Cairo, Egypt to James Ralston of the Port Adelaide area on 16th December 1915. During WWI, Anzac troops were trained in Egypt prior to entering the Gallipoli peninsula and the Western Front. Egypt also served as a hospital base to treat wounded troops prior to their long voyage back to Australia and New Zealand.

Although presumably friends of Mr Ralston, we do not know the exact identity of the soldiers in this photograph; where they fought or their fate. This is often the case with many similar images from past conflicts. Today we remember all who served, even those whose names we don't know.
