Whats in our name? For newcomers and visitors, its very easy to get confused with the district names here, we9 think this is a good summary..
"The name "Berrima" comes from the local Gundungarra Aboriginal word meaning "southward" or "black swan". Established in the 1830s as a planned Georgian village, it became the first administrative and judicial hub of the broader Berrima District—a region now more commonly known as the Southern Highlands.
