🌈 💡 It is now believed that some members of the Habsburg family were q***r, even though the term did not exist at the time. Click through to learn more >>

ℹ️Until 1787 homosexuality was punishable by death in the Habsburg lands and it was not decriminalised in Austria until 1971. For both legal and social reasons, q***r people kept their love lives hidden. There are very few documents, diaries, letters or similar materials that explicitly address q***rness. Instead, it can be inferred from life circumstances, accounts by contemporary witnesses, or cryptic phrases handed down through the generations.

Can you imagine how much history this magnificent fountain from the 18th century has seen in its more than 240 years?

⛲️ Take a closer look at some beautiful details of the Neptune Fountain and enjoy the spectacular view of Schönbrunn Palace and the Great Parterre.

🔱 This architectural masterpiece was designed as the crowning element of the Great Parterre. At the centre of the figural group stands Neptune, with his trident. To his left is a nymph and to his right the sea goddess Thetis. At the foot of the grotto we see the Tritons, creatures that are part man and part fish, with their hippocampi or sea horses.

Lets talk about biodiversity and species conservation at Schönbrunn 🐸The Schönbrunn Palace and Gardens, as well as the Zoo Vienna Schönbrunn, are not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Vienna’s most important tourist attractions, but also a habitat for a wide variety of species.

⛲️ There is no other park in Vienna that offers such a high number and variety of water bodies.

🍃 On today’s International Day for Biological Diversity, we’d like to tell you more about our ongoing biodiversity project that is carried out in collaboration with the Zoo-Team and the Austrian Society for Herpetology. Click through and find out more >>

🦎 Amphibians are important indicators of habitat quality. Protecting them helps to preserve biodiversity in urban green spaces. The International Day for Biological Diversity reminds us that sustainable nature conservation requires time, knowledge and continuity – and that local projects are part of a global responsibility.
