XVA Gallery

XVA Gallery Since the 2003 inauguration, heritage and history have merged to create a constantly evolving designer haven called the XVA Art Gallery.

The gallery is located in the heart of the Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood, the oldest community in Dubai. Established in 2003, XVA is one of the leading galleries in the Middle East that specializes in contemporary art from the Arab world, Iran and the Subcontinent. Exhibitions focus on works by the regions foremost artists as well as those emerging onto the scene. The gallery’s artists express

their different cultural identities and perspectives while challenging the viewer to drop prejudices and borders. XVA Gallery exhibits both locally and internationally; collaborating with galleries and participating in international art fairs, such as Art Basel Hong Kong, SH Contemporary, Singapore Art Fair and Abu Dhabi Art in 2014, in order to further expose Middle Eastern contemporary art. XVA Gallery and XVA Art Hotel are located in Dubai’s heritage district, now called Al Fahidi Historical Neighborhood. XVA founded and organized the Bastakiya Art Fair from 2007- 2010 as part of its commitment to raising the profile of contemporary art practice in Dubai. For three years XVA was located in DIFC, and has now expanded itself in Al Fahidi.

OBLIVION | Summer Exhibition

To forget is not only to lose. Oblivion explores forgetting as an act of transformation, making room for new meanings, forms, and possibilities.

Bringing together works across painting, sculpture, textile, and mixed media, the exhibition looks at how familiar objects and images can be released from their original purpose and take on new identities.

What remains is not absence, but possibility.

On view at XVA Gallery until 15 August 2026.

Forgetting, in this light, is less erasure than editing: a structural condition of how identity stays alive, how history keeps moving, how images and objects find new use once their first purpose has passed. What remains in these works is not absence but possibility, gesture freed from context, object freed from owner, form open to whatever meaning arrives next.

Featuring:
Halim Al Karim, Basem Al Sayer, Jane Beveridge, Debjani Bhardwaj, Ale Dehghan, Nada Debs, Noel Duigan, Brian Gonzales, Mahmoud Hamadani, Halona Hilbertz, Sehr Karim, Charlie Koolhaas, Behdad Lahooti, Colleen Quigley, Mukesh Shah, Yoshihiko Tsusumi, and Morteza Zahedi.

Working across metal, textile, found and fabricated materials, the artists in this exhibition ask what becomes possible once memory stops holding on so tightly. Domestic and bodily objects are freed from their original function, made strange, playful, ornamental, evidence not of loss but of renewal, of a self continually remaking itself. Nothing here mourns the past. It repurposes it.

To forget is not only to lose. Oblivion is also where the mind makes room, clearing space for what matters now, letting go of what no longer serves. The works gathered here treat forgetting as a generative act: a hairbrush, an armchair, each object caught mid-transformation, shedding one meaning to make way for another.
