Someone asked us why our honey tastes so different. And the answer is actually pretty simple. The beekeeper we work with don't mess with it. 😊 No heating. No pasteurising. No syrups. Just pure, raw honey collected by bees doing what they do best across the Western Cape.

Today, on our birthday, we pause with full hearts. Looking back at photographs from our early days, it’s beautiful to see how far we’ve come. The first scones out of the oven, the first cups poured, the first familiar faces at our tables… simple beginnings that grew into 19 years of shared moments, stories, and connection.

This Sunday, we’re celebrating 19 years of Pepper Tree. ❤️ While much has changed over the years, some things have stayed the same. On our very first day, guests joined us for freshly baked scones and cappuccinos, and 19 years later, our scones remain a firm favourite.

Saturday morning saw us host the Haval/GWM Owners Club - Southern Africa. 😏

We’re supposed to say the food, the conviviality, and the warming sun filtering through the tent were the highlights, but if you’re going to bring a Basset pup to the party, there’s only going to be one star.

We all know these are the Cape’s best months: wind-free, cool and crisp. Even our gardens seem to agree, offering one final flourish before winter settles in.

At Pepper Tree, we take the green theme a little further. We sell beautifully arranged bouquets, a selection of garden plants and — if you look up — botanical art lining the walls. And of course, our plant-based meals and ice creams. It only feels right.

Just outside our shop, you’ll find a shelf filled with books for sale, kindly donated by our regular guests. All proceeds go to Urban Animal, a local rehabilitation centre doing incredible work rescuing and rehoming pets in the area.

So, pick up a novel and make a donation at the till. If you’d like, feel free to bring in your old books, as well as blankets or clothing, and we’ll donate them on your behalf. Every little bit helps.
