What Remains

Join us this coming Last Thursday for the debut exhibition of ‘What Remains’ by Cathy Milner & Nicolette von Wiese at RELEVANT Art Gallery.

‘Through etching and drypoint, and through stitching, layering and repair, fragments are transformed into marks that endure.’

For Cathy, the etched line carries ten years in which the nature of her closest relationships has changed. For Nicolette, thread became a way of holding grief, memory and love, since the loss of her son last year. Though their materials differ, both artists work in that fragile space between what is lost and what remains.

Another day, another proud moment for RELEVANT.

One of our exhibiting artists, Leandri Erlank (leandri), has been selected as a finalist for this year’s Sasol New Signatures Visual Arts Competition (Sasol New Signatures). And that comes as no surpise... With her unique approach to mark making – using her very own strands of hair – Leandri’s work is ‘connected’. From body, to hand, to canvas. Each piece a meditative act in presence and creation.

Congrats Leandri, you’re incredible.

Make sure you swing by the gallery to experience a marriage of two exhibitions by Miró Van Der Vloed (Miró Van Der Vloed) and Gabriele Jacobs (Gabriele Jacobs). ‘Daar is weer lig’ and ‘A Wounded Wild’ – two bodies of work that dance with light; sway in softness; reaching inwards, and backwards – towards memory.
