Njabulo is a Johannesburg-based filmmaker, writer and producer, and an AFDA graduate working across film, TV and commercials. His work explores visually distinct, character-led South African stories, often framed through a genre lens.

We’re looking forward to the stories, ideas and conversations he’ll bring into the space.

For ARCHIVE 002, we’re collaborating with THE SOWETO COMMUNITY PHOTOWALK to spend an afternoon exploring South African heritage through photography, beginning with a screening of Sam Nzima: A Journey Through His Lens at Eyethu.

Sam Nzima was a South African photographer and journalist whose photographs, became an important part of the country’s visual history. The documentary looks at his life, work and legacy, and the photographs that helped shape South Africa’s visual memory.

From there, we’ll take the conversation into the streets of Soweto, camera in hand.

Before Eyethu Heritage Hall, there was this…

Our founders, EB & CK. Partners in marriage and business started with £20 and a butchery license, selling meat by bicycle in Emasakeni, Soweto.

From there, a butchery became a supermarket. A supermarket became a Shell filling station, soon the top-selling Shell outlet in all of Sub-Saharan Africa. Then a car dealership, bottle stores, fish and chip outlets, dry-cleaning depots in both Soweto & Eswatini.

And then, Eyethu Cinema. The cinema doors have closed, but Eyethu Heritage Hall now stands right where it used to be, carrying the story forward.

This is where we come from. This is Eyethu Heritage Hall. 🧡🖤
