THE CAPTAIN
A self-portrait, without looking anything like me.
The Captain rides into town with all the bravado — crown on his head, pride in his stride — but his heart is somewhere else.
He longs for the sea. For the crash of waves against the hull. For freedom.
The great blue-black horse is the strength that carries him through the practical business of life. The fence is responsibility, routine and circumstance. And the little yellow birds? They can simply fly over it.
Perhaps that’s what The Captain is really about: the person the world sees, and the place your heart still longs to be.
And through all the colour, humour and performance, that little heart knows exactly where it belongs.
