Chantelle Britz Art

Chantelle Britz Art I’m Chantelle Britz, an abstract artist. Through color and movement on canvass, I create from a place of worship.

Here, abstract art becomes a quiet conversation with God.

Where the river rests,
the noise disappears.

Only stone,
water,
sun,
and time.

I painted what I saw,
but kept what I felt.

Early morning I was sitting and watching how the shadows danced across my curtains.

The leaves outside moved with the breeze, and for a moment the fabric became a canvas — light and shadow painting something that could never quite be repeated.

Shapes appeared, softened, disappeared, and became something new.

It reminded me that art is everywhere, long before we put paint to canvas. Sometimes being an artist is simply about noticing it.

A fleeting little masterpiece, painted by light.

Two years. 🤍

My art business turned 2 on Saturday.

I didn’t post. I didn’t make a big celebration of it. Instead, it was a quiet day — one where I found myself reflecting on these past two years and just how incredibly blessed I am.

What started with paint, a canvas and a little bit of courage has become something I could never have fully planned.

There have been beautiful moments, uncertain ones, doors that opened unexpectedly, people who believed in my work, paintings that found homes, and so many lessons along the way.

But above all, there has been God’s goodness.

Looking back, I can see His hand in places where, at the time, I couldn’t see what He was doing. His provision. His timing. His grace. His quiet way of reminding me to keep creating and keep trusting.

So this birthday feels less like a celebration of what I have built, and more like gratitude for what I have been allowed to build.

Two years of creating.
Two years of growing.
Two years of being carried by grace.

God has been so, so good.

Here’s to year three…

Twelve Stones

There are things we are meant to remember.

In Joshua 4, God instructed the Israelites to take twelve stones from the Jordan — one for each tribe — and carry them to the other side.
Not because the stones themselves were sacred, but because memory is fragile. One day their children would see them and ask, “What do these stones mean?”

And the story would be told again.
Twelve Stones was created from that thought.

Twelve textured forms emerge from a dark, weathered surface. They resemble stone, but also windows — as though each one holds a glimpse into something that came before us. Twelve tribes. Twelve histories. Twelve inheritances. Yet all belonging to one story.
Perhaps that is what memorials are for. To give physical form to the things we never want time to erase.

To remember the waters that once stood in our way.
The ground God made dry beneath our feet.
The places we thought we could never cross.

And to leave something behind that makes the next generation ask:

What happened here?

So that we can tell them.

Where the River Rests - SOLD

There are some experiences that feel like they become part of the artwork itself…this was so true for this piece.

Recently, I had the opportunity to create a piece for a new guesthouse in the Cederberg Mountains — but instead of painting it in my studio, I took the canvas into the landscape that would become its home.

I stood beside the river, surrounded by the beautiful Cederberg rocks, with the sound of water moving through them and the mountains stretching out around me.

There was something incredibly special about creating a piece in the place it was created for. The colours, textures, stillness and movement of the landscape found their way onto the canvas in a way I could never have planned beforehand.

A reminder of why I paint: to notice. To be present. To translate something of the beauty God has already created.

What a moment, a moment that forever changed me!!
