The Museum’s Vision:
To be an institution of excellence whereby the inclusivity and suffering of all communities during the Anglo-Boer War are depicted, thus propagating the message that negotiation is preferable to war. The War Museum in Bloemfontein not only provides the visitor with insight into the Anglo- Boer War through its unique art collection, dioramas and exhibits but also brings the visitor closer to understanding the background against which the war took place. The course and development of the war unfolds as you progress through the museum. Visitors are also afforded a glimpse into the life in the concentration and also prisoner-of-war camps. The Museum is now fully wheelchair accessible as we have installed lifts in the museum. There is information about each of our hall exhibitions in braille as well. This page is only for marketing events of the Museum and other Museum related posts. Any questions or queries regarding the war can be sent to the museum via email at [email protected]. No discussions will be allowed on the page and will be deleted if it occurs. There are many other Facebook discussion pages on the war, please visit them if you would like to discuss a War-related topic. 'n Paar nuwe lyfies het by die Museum aangesluit!

Vanoggend net voor 6am het 'n nuwe donkie vulletjie haar verskyning gemaak! Ma Cleopatra, Pa Sarel en Boetie Neelsie is vreeslik trots - en klein Emily is net betyds vir die groot Emily100 fees wat op 31 Oktober by die Museum en die Vrouemonument gaan plaasvind.

Baie welkom klein Emily! 🌷

Maar dit is nie net die Museum donkies wat nuwe lewe bygebring het nie! 🫏

Die wilde ganse, die museum ganse en die klein kwakkertjies het almal kuikens gehad 😁🦆🐣

A few new little ones have joined the Museum!

This morning just before 6am a new donkey foal made her appearance! Mom Cleopatra, Dad Sarel and Brother Neelsie are very proud - and little Emily is just in time for the big Emily100 festival that will take place on October 31 at the Museum and the Women's Monument.

Welcome little Emily! 🌷

But it's not just the Museum donkeys that have brought new life! 🫏

The wild geese, the museum geese and the little ducks all had chicks 😁🦆🐣

Emily 100 vieringe!

Van 28 - 31 Okt is daar 'n splinternuwe musikale toneelstuk te sien by die Sand du Plessis teater oor die Storie van Emily.

Dan op 31 Oktober vier ons Emily se nagedagtenis met die ervaring van haar begrafnisstoet soos dit was 100 jaar gelede. Daar gaan ook smul lekker tradisionele kos beskikbaar wees en pragtige aandenkings om eendag vir jou kleinkinders te wys en te sê: " Ek was daar."

Emily 100 celebrations!

From 28 - 31 Oct there will be a brand new musical play at the Sand du Plessis Theatre about the Story of Emily.

Then on 31 October we will celebrate Emily's memory by experiencing her funeral procession as it was 100 years ago. There will also be delicious traditional food available and beautiful souvenirs to show your grandchildren one day and say: "I was there."

Op hierdie dag, soveel jaar gelede, sou beide Boer en Agterryer na die kommando vertrek. Hul los hul vroue en kinders, hul families en vriende agter.

Ons kan net raai wat in hul gemoed was toe hulle die stil pad moes vat na die onbekende.

On this day, so many years ago, both Boer and Agterryer would leave for the commando. They left their wives and children, their families and friends behind.

We can only guess what was in their minds when they had to take the silent path into the unknown.
