Did you know that the Richard Young Forest Preseve in Yorkville has one of the earliest blooming wildflowers in Illinois? Skunk Cabbage is a unique wetland plant known for its skunk-like smell and ability to produce heat that can melt snow and ice. This heat producing process, called thermogenesis, allows this plant to flower long before most other wildflowers. Keep an eye out for it during your next trip to the preserve!

On this Giving Tuesday, your generosity has the power to make a meaningful impact. Your donation will help the Forest Foundation of Kendall County support restoration projects, such as the Eldamain-Schaeffer Road Fen Project at Subat Forest Preserve, by increasing suitable habitat for state endangered animals such as the King Rail which was historically reported here. This preserve has a Floristic Quality Index Rating of 57 meaning it is filled with high quality native plant species and is extremely valuable to the Chicagoland region. Every dollar counts, and together, we can make a difference. Will you give today to change tomorrow?
