On Juneteenth, we reflect on the stories that shape our understanding of American history and the ongoing work of bringing those stories into conversation with the present.

In an article for Journal18, guest curator Dr. Jonathan Michael Square and Tour Programming Assistant Tyler Horne reflect on Winterthur's 2025 exhibition, Almost Unknown: The Afric-American Picture Gallery, and the process of extending its impact beyond the gallery through an interpretive tour of Winterthur’s historic house. Together, they explore how museums can create space for deeper engagement with histories that have too often been overlooked.
