Historic Connecticut Airship Flight — April 23, 2024

Alicia Hempleman-Adams made aviation history with a record-setting hot-air airship flight from Murphy’s Landing Balloonport in Bethlehem, Connecticut, to Harwinton, Connecticut. The flight established three women’s world records for distance, altitude, and duration in her airship category.

Two years later, Alicia joined master balloon builder Bert Padelt aboard Atlantic Explorer for the first crewed transatlantic crossing using hydrogen as its sole onboard source of lift—fulfilling Bert’s 40-year dream.

Earlier this month a group of NEAM members and friends of the organization traveled to France, Belgium, and England with NEAM’s Director of Education Dr. Amanda Goodheart Parks for an in-depth exploration of the Battle of Britain and Dunkirk in partnership with Stephen Ambrose Historical Tours.

Along the way, they received expert historical commentary, behind-the-scenes access at museums and historic sites, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences, including VIP access at IWM Duxford and an exclusive dinner at the Royal Air Force Club in London. As one traveler commented, “This was the best trip I have ever taken.”

Did you know...

There were only 149 Lockheed 10s (Electra) ever built!

101 were 10-As, the kind on display at NEAM.

The museum's Electra was originally used to transport high ranking millitary officials by the US Navy.

🐾 Meet Banner and Luna 🐾

We had the pleasure of meeting two incredible service dogs at NEAM the other day!

Banner, a German Shepherd, is doing amazing work alongside his handler.

Luna, a Black Lab, is part of the Bloomfield Police Department and works alongside her handler to support the department and community.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to meet these hardworking pups and their dedicated handlers. Thank you, Banner and Luna, for all that you do! 🐕‍🦺❤️
