Our All 'GOOD' Stamp Prints History Makers last week was another fun time for those who attended!

We want to make a special thank you to Emmy Goode who, before her passing, presented the Mendocino County Museum with some of her leftover stamps for use in our programs. Emmy owned and operated a small, but globally known, art stamp business here in Willits.

The kids enjoyed making their own scenes with the collection of unique and interesting stamps, and it was all thanks to Emmy's generous donation.

To help celebrate our Nation's 250th anniversary July History Makers will be focusing on symbols of the United States of America, for a whole month of celebration!

During the month of July we will have a voting box for you to cast your votes for your favorite craft. This week will be the craft voted on by you!

This week, July 29th from 2:00-4:30, your winner that was voted on by you!

The right to vote is a cornerstone of American Democracy. Everyone over the age of 18 can vote and have their voices heard. However, that was not without several developments across many decades. Below is an elementary timeline of voting in the United States:
- 1776: Voting rights based on property ownership, and age of 21.
- 1830: Property Ownership dropped by many states, many political parties begin around this time.
- 1870: 15th Amendment gives African Americans the right to vote, no state or local government could deny them this right.
-1920: 19th Amendment gives women across the nation the right to vote, no longer by individual states.
-1947: Native Americans granted right to vote.
-1965: Voting Right Act bans literacy tests, poll taxes, or any other obstacles designed to keep people from voting, no person could be denied the right to vote.
-1971: Voting age lowered to 18.
