Illustrations from the book, "Secrets from the Oak Woodlands" Ann Meyer Maglinte is an award-winning artist who has illustrated several books. She is an avid gardener and herbalist, and lives amidst oaks and redwoods.

Kate and I collaborated on the illustrations for the book for nine months. We carefully considered the time of year and how the animals would be adapting to their environment. As an example, the photo reference for the coyote was in the deep snow, and we were portraying early summer, so I had to change the thickness of his coat to reflect the fact that it was warmer. Ann Meyer Maglinte and her hus

band, Jon live on 22 acres outside of Willits amidst oaks and redwoods. They built a rambling home in the Tudor-Victorian style, and have two daughters and four grandchildren. An avid gardener, Ann has several gardens devoted to herbs and flowers. Her surroundings provide her with a constant inspiration for her watercolor paintings. She is an herbalist and animal lover, and has studied botanical illustration. In the 1980's she was commissioned to do pen and ink illustrations and maps for a series of published books in the Green Lion Trilogy by Teresa Edgerton. Ann met Kate in the community chorus they both sing in locally and also enjoys playing old time music with friends. She has taught watercolor for over 17 years at Mendocino College, and has received several grants for children's art programs. Her paintings are in collections all over the world, and have won several awards.

Our Waldorphia Watercolor Painting Program is now up!
Jon and I are very excited to share our new https://waldorphia.com/ website featuring our Waldorf watercolor painting lessons for grades 1-3. I was the painting teacher at River Oak Waldorf Charter School when Covid hit, and then could no longer teach in the classroom. I needed to create watercolor video lessons the children could watch at home.
It was a steep learning curve, but I created video lessons for my classes, grades 1-8, that the teachers said really inspired the children to paint. Jon learned how to make the videos, (no small task!) I have been planning on creating a program of year long lessons for over 2 years now, and we are excited to say that we have now launched our site and Painting Program! We have semester long, and year long programs, Classes 1-3, perfect for parents, Homeschoolers and teachers, based on the Waldorf curriculum, the seasons, learning about watercolor painting, and accomplishing new painting skills. Both our Intro package and our Year-long packages are on sale now!
Please visit our new site! We have a free lesson for you to watch, and a lot of info about our program. You do not have to be a Waldorf student or family to enjoy the program, and anyone who wants to bring more art into their children's or grandchildren's lives or classroom will enjoy these lessons.
Subscribe to our free monthly newsletter, (just click the button,) which includes painting tips and crafts, celebrating the seasons, recipes, special offers, and ideas for connecting the natural world through art! Our September newsletter will be replaced with the October one tomorrow! (Check it out, the September one has a delicious recipe for baked apples!) https://waldorphia.com/

As the days grow shorter and the air becomes crisp, Autumn welcomes us with its vibrant colors and festive traditions. Fall is a time of transformation, where nature puts on its final, breathtaking display before the stillness of Winter. It’s also a season that invites us to gather, create, and celebrate—especially as Halloween approaches!

What a great opportunity to celebrate the season with your family and friends. Fall and Halloween offer rich opportunities to combine nature study with creative expression, whether you’re painting the beauty of Autumn, carving or painting a Jack-o'Lantern, or gathering special leaves and acorns to decorate your nature table. We have a special pumpkin video to watch on our youtube channel; perfect for you and your family to paint! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWY1rIyaxvU
As you gather around the table for meal, with your family or friends, reflect on the natural changes happening around us—the falling leaves, the chilly breeze, and the quiet preparation of nature for winter. We can celebrate the beauty and magic of this season with each other, and include art as an essential part of our seasonal rhythm. Happy Samhain!-(A Celtic Spiritual festival.)

Just in time for Hallowe'en, paint some pumpkins on the vine, with Ann Maglinte. Perfect for Grades 1- 3. Have some fun with your children, grandchildren, or...

This is a time of harvest, of being grateful for the bounty we have reaped, and letting go of those seeds that did not grow or bear fruit. In the beginning of August we celebrated Lughnassad, the first harvest. We have seen which seeds have flourished and what plans and projects have been positive.
Tomorrow is September 22, the Autumn Equinox, when day and night are equal, and we begin to move into the darker time of year, and winter. We can rejoice in this harvest, and the abundance of the season. Now it is time to let go of those projects that did not come to fruition and did not work out. We can plan for the new year, and dream of what is to come.

It's time for Watercolor classes! My onsite class in Willits is full, but there is room in my online class. The class begins Jan. 31-May 17. You can be comfortable at home, watch my painting videos, and paint along with me on your own time. Once a week there is a Zoom meeting on Tuesdays, 2:30-4:30. The meetings really make it feel more like a class, and everyone has an opportunity to show their work. I will also have info about each lesson to share, and slide shows. The class is Beginning-Advanced with videos for each sections. You can sign up at mendocino.edu, or call 707 459-6224 at the Willits Center and talk to Tammy. All new lessons: Fog, trees, birds, flowers.

Here is one of the paintings I have in the show. It is called "An Ocean of Fog," because this is the view we have on many mornings from our house. The fog settles into the canyon below. The hills and trees look like islands and the fog like the ocean.
