An interesting side note to this beautiful piano. Mr. Kell said he purchased this piano because even though all of his daughters had piano lessons, non of them wanted to play. Henceforth a player piano.

This week we’re highlighting the beautiful Baby Grand Player Piano in the Kell House Museum. This piano is a Wm. Knabe & Co. Player Piano that was purchased by Mr. Frank Kell.
Player pianos use special music rolls made of perforated paper that automatically trigger the keys, allowing the piano to play songs on its own.
Today, you can see this fascinating piece of history in the Kell House Museum Parlor. Be sure to stop by and check it out on your next visit!

Welcome back to “Friday Finds”

Today we’re highlighting a beautiful feature in the Kell House Museum dining room: the French corner cabinet. This Federal-style piece is crafted from rich mahogany and accented with elegant gilt wood decorations. It’s not just stunning to look at—it also serves a practical purpose, beautifully displaying and organizing the family’s crystal collection.

Next time you visit, be sure to take a closer look at this remarkable piece of craftsmanship!

Wichita County Heritage Society is beginning a new adventure by introducing a new Kell House artifact every Friday. And so it begins with this amazing piece from the Parlor.

Welcome to" Friday Finds".

Take a look at this accent table! Crafted from giltwood and richly finished in gold leaf, this parlor table features a stunning Royal Vienna portrait charger—celebrating a tradition of porcelain artistry that dates back to the 18th century. Known for their intricate detail and masterful design, Royal Vienna plates add an unmistakable elegance to any setting.

Even more special? We believe this table was part of Mrs. Kell’s original décor in the Parlor of the Kell House—a beautiful piece of history!
