Lexington & Concord
The Shot Heard ‘Round the World
“Stand your ground, do not fire unless fired upon. If they mean to have a war, let it begin here.”
-Captain John Parker at Lexington Green
We have all heard of Paul Revere’s “Midnight Ride”, and “the shot heard round the world.” But how much of the stories are myth and how much is truth?
Discover the events of April 19, 1775, when tensions between Great Britain and its American colonies erupted into open conflict at Lexington and Concord, one of the best documented battles of the American Revolution. In this engaging Lunch & Learn, explore how a British mission to seize colonial weapons sparked the first battles of the American Revolution, and how local militias of ordinary citizens rose in resistance. Learn about the midnight alarm, the confrontation on Lexington Green, and the “shot heard ’round the world” that marked the beginning of a war for independence as we examine the people, places, and lasting impact of this pivotal day when a single moment set a revolution in motion and forever changed the course of history.
