This introductory workshop provides students with a foundation in screenprinting (also known as silkscreen or serigraphy) techniques while exploring the creative use of unconventional materials to produce unique textures, shapes, and imagery. Through demonstrations and hands-on projects using paper cuttings, found materials, and other objects, students will create layered compositions by building progressive images through multiple printed layers, applied
manually or digitally using inks with varying levels of opacity.

In this workshop students will learn different ways to create prints by combining dry point with monotype and stencils. We will focus on exploring a variety of techniques such as starting with a dry point plate to create loose and expressive lines and adding layers of monotype and stencils.
Monotype is an excellent way to add color to prints in a quick, intuitive and painterly way and stencils can be used to build layers with more structure and the possibility of repeating shapes. This workshop is great for complete beginners as well as students who may have some prior experience. Students are encouraged to experiment, work with multiple layers and learn how to create stencils from different materials. In addition, the instructor will cover color mixing and how to choose color pallets.

In this workshop you will learn how to fold a paper star or “firework.” No experience required, but it is ideal if you are able to fold very precisely. Originally designed by Yami Yamauchi, this structure folds inside out and is beautiful from every angle. All materials included.

Fold Up, Fold In, Fold Out: Map Folds for Artist Books

This two-day workshop will introduce you to the exciting possibilities of map folds for artist books. Map folds are ingenious ways to incorporate large prints or other imagery into the openings of your books. Learn a range of both historical map folds and innovative book arts forms, all designed to expand the size and scope of what a book page can hold. Come away having learned set forms as well as strategies and techniques for coming up with your own fold-outs. We will also discuss how to adjust your bindings to account for the thickness of incorporated folds.

WHAT?! We have a gallery?! Well, yes, at least for a while. Popping up this weekend 1286 Washington Street in West Newton, Massachusetts Saturday and Sunday May 30 and 31 from 10:30 to 5:30. We are calling it the Ampersand Gallery because we are about so much more than a printmaking studio. We are a community of creative colleagues. Come check it out.
