Did you know that in Jewish tradition, 18 symbolizes chai ("life")? As we reflect on 36 years of showcasing extraordinary regional artists and providing free community access, we are celebrating double chai—a true milestone of sustained creative life.

If you’d like to help us build the next chapter, consider joining our $36 for 36 Years campaign.

Created by Detroit-based artist, designer, and educator Jeremy Noonan, this installation features three large-scale fabric hangings... blending digital prints on rich velour and jacquard-woven fabric alongside a series of custom-printed porcelain bowls.

Jeremy has an extensive background collaborating with leading commercial manufacturers, he constantly explores how pattern, color, and surface materials intersect. Straddling the line between fine art and design, his work is rooted in a deep understanding of textiles as a medium for communication.

As Professor and Section Lead of Fiber and Textiles at the College for Creative Studies, Jeremy brings this boundary-pushing vision to both his studio practice and the next generation of designers.

FIBER ON THE EDGE exhibit ends Tuesday, September 2. Stop by the gallery to see the work up close! 🧵🥣

Where industrial strength meets organic resilience. Ann Smith’s Squash*Blossom pairs rugged reclaimed steel with soft fiber, wood, and natural birch bark... a striking physical embodiment of endurance, transformation, and purpose. Made of reclaimed steel, wood, fiber, birch bark.

Artist statement about the piece:
“An act of will mobilizes the body in aid of the spirit. We rise, bearing some hybrid fruit of necessity.”

Now on view during FIBER ON THE EDGE. Visit the gallery through September 2 to experience the intricate textures and raw power of this piece in person.

Hear the inspiration from the artists themselves! Fiber on the Edge pushes the boundaries of craft, unifying traditional fiber techniques into an avant-garde sensory experience. Curated by Susan Aaron-Taylor, this exhibition features visionary artists taking fibers into the future. By fusing alternative materials with striking mixed media, exploring both traditional and experimental 2D and 3D techniques, and prioritizing conceptual depth, these creators challenge our understanding of structure and form. Witness fiber pushed to its absolute limit.
